I watched some of this yesterday afternoon, it was indeed brutal, 0ver 500 combined runs from less than 40 overs. But I think it has to be put into context. There was an article from Sunil Gavaskar the other day in which he said that it has gone too far in favour of the batting side. The organizers of the IPL have reduced the length of the boundaries even more, some of them little more than 50 metres. It is 20 metres between the wickets, so some boundaries are under 3 times that length which is nothing at all for international cricketers, boundaries for 10 year olds are that in this country, it’s ridiculous and has little to do with proper cricket IMO. In fact it probably is to the detriment of cricket in regard to the development of young players. But sadly, just like the cricket board in this country, the money men are in control as evidenced by the hit and giggle nonsense that is The Hundred that now takes precedence here, and the interests of proper cricket and proper cricket lovers come a very poor second. History and tradition mean absolutely nothing to these charlatans. It’s very sad.
