If anyone could benefit from reinventing himself on a different forum, it’s dear old alps.
However, I can’t think of anyone who would be less willing to reinvent themselves than our grumpy alpine friend.
I think it’s refreshing for posters to have a fresh start on a new forum. It’s exciting to be part of something new and a forum philosophy of openness and inclusion.

I’m a defender of the Alps. Always good too much crap over there. He was a harmless pantomime villain that got used as the de facto punching bag for the “not much to say otherwise” lot.
I defended him when I first joined SWF as I thought he was rounded upon as victimised. Then you see some of his posts that aren’t about Saints and you realise he’s a fascist. So fuck him.
And with that post I confirm that I am not Alpine.
I shall agree to disagree there, and give you a sideways vote. I have pretty much always found him nothing short of obnoxious, over 10 years and 2 forums. Maybe some people picked on him, but I still thought he was a moron.
Alps was cool. It was fun to see the amount of bites he got for being deliberately inflammatory, most of which descended into personal territory. Generally, he handled them well, i thought.
I felt the same about Dalek

A few years ago I used to cross swords with Alpine on a regular basis. His constant negativity was driving me crazy! Someone posted on a thread that the constant bickering was bringing the forum down. I didnt realise that I was contributing to the negativity at that point and from then on I reigned it in. I still have the occasional pop but most of the time I let him get on with it. As someone says, he is a bit like a pantomine character. There are far worse posters there. I did PM Alps a few times and found him more reasonable on a one to one basis. I am just glad I am not his dog. The poor thing must be black and blue.
I wonder if one day people will look back on the first few weeks of Papsweb as halcyon days when people were too busy creating something new to waste their time wondering about the ‘other place’? All this sniping at one another, whilst providing some entertaining moments, is ultimately unproductive and tiresome, imo.
They do their stuff; we do ours; you pay your money (or in the case of Papsweb, you don’t) and make your choice.
Well, actually, now I’ve seen what a nice guy Hypo can be (I think he’s been genuinely lovely on here) I read his messages on TSW in a whole new light! I think he’s calling us wimps in a cutesy way, not nasty. And before, I thought he sounded old fashioned, humourless, dull and a bit thick, now I realise I just read his posts wrong and he’s actually quite charming and flirtatious! All he needs is a little wink on the end of his TSW posts and it suddenly makes sense!
What a pleasant post Lou. I definitely think the unique sense of fun spilling from your posts are better suited over here than over there. As I mentioned, this place is geared up for that sort of thing whereas saintsweb has always been more of a place for personas, people up for an argument and wind ups (which as you know certainly has its place on the internet too.) There is nothing I like better than a good scrap or an inflammatory statement to get the fingers hammering on my keyboard but equally it can be pleasant to converse in a more sedate manner and with a smile on your face. Pap too is more amicable when he isn’t in faux attack mode over the latest conspirotheory. That’s why this place exists.
