🍻🍷 The Map of 🇲🇷 Booze thread whatever the title says (or is changed to when moderately intoxicated)

Our flight out was very quiet but seriously overstocked with wine.

I felt it my duty to reduce the plan’s load by emptying as many mini bottles as possible. This was round 1.

This does not look like Ryanair

BA. But missed a trick as the Jordanian flight ten minutes later was apparently even quieter in a wide-bodied plane with entertainment and better meals.

Anyway, glad I made the most of it as Jordan is virtually dry during Ramadan.

Probably upwards of $120 a bottle in a restaurant
Drank a bottle with Peter Reid & David Speedie at the Lebanese Restaurant at the Tennis Stadium once upon a time - their expense account obviously

Ksara should be more affordable

Jordanian wine is produced by two wineries, with an annual production of nearly a million bottles a year. Jordan has a long tradition of wine making,[1] dating as far back as Nabatean times.[2]

Archaeological digs near Petra have uncovered at least 82 wine presses of industrial scale dating back to Nabatean times. Several sources suggest that the wine served to Jesus during the Last Supper came from Umm Qais in Northern Jordan.[3]

The modern wine industry in Jordan was established in 1975 by the Haddad distilling company.[4] Two wineries exist in Jordan today. Zumot and Haddad producing Saint George and Jordan River wines respectively. Both wineries have their vineyards in Mafraq in northern Jordan, where the high elevation, underground water and basalt-rich soil provide suitable conditions.

The two companies have an estimated annual production of a million liters a year, most of which is for domestic consumption. In 2018, it was reported that the Jordan River wines had won 96 awards, and the Saint George claimed 23 prizes.[5]

Reminds me of the tale of the Egyptian State vinyard
Produced thousands of bottles a year but the Winemaster was a Muslim so it was never tasted before bottling.

You can imagine…

Was given the occasional bottle for running the pub quiz at a gastro pub near me. Landlord was also a wine dealer.
