📰 The latest news!

If you are in London - go.
I saw the Jason Donovan show back in the late '80’s - I was loving it. Then when it got to The Timewarp little old man in a green cordrouy jacket, tash etc - pure country Gent type - stood up & was wearing Fishnets & heels.

It’s a piece of history - and magic

We’ve had zero rain for about 8 weeks apart from 1 Thunderstorm
There are no mushrooms anywhere - even in the mountains - it’s a big blow to village economics roughly 100m ton a year usually.

Drought is THIS bad, but we have finally had 24 hours of medium rainfall.
It affected my Raspberry picking - early summer rains meant the canes grew well and flowered but lack of water means tge berries have been getting small.

:crossed_fingers:

Its estimated to take 2-10 days for shrooms to grow after rain.
Forests gonna be busy from tomorrow

Polish Mushroom Hunting Tradition – Polana Polish Food Online.

Well i am shocked.

I thought bit of rain, need some exercise, take 'shrooming gear and oof! 1st of the season.

A Porcine the size of my hand

We stopped at the lake on the way home huge and beautiful with the Beskid Mountains behind it
These floods are catastrophic some arguments that the authorities could have released more water before the heavily forecasted ectreme rainfall event hit, now the whole lot could go

We have family down that way. Elder sister.
Youngest step nephew worked his ass off through college into employment got engaged bought a new home.
Who just had a dam is going to burst alert and they are right in line.

Shit is really bad - about an hour south of Wroclaw 3 hours west of us

So to save Wroclaw they have to let the dams go downstream.
Step Nephew is 1st in line to get hit

Step Nephew has filled sandbags, covered what he can with clingfilm and has been forcibly evacuated

With the US about to be twatted by this hurricane, I think I found the winner for the bleakest headline of the year

Floridians refusing to flee hurricane told to write names on arm so their bodies can be identified

Can you trust them to use a permanent marker though?

Let’s hope Trump uses an orange marker pen. He may never be seen again.

And.
It missed.
Must have been forecast by the BBC Weather App

@Polski_Filip 's North American cousins get it wrong.

It is a real art.
Utter caution at all times.
I’d never eat anything i pick unless Mrs P_F has checked it.
She spent summers with Grandma in the forests learning. Today she knows maybe 25 safe shrooms out of hundreds but has access to the huge local FB forum who help out.

I met a Toxicologist from the Astra Team who tried to save some hundreds of Ukrainian women who had relocated to Germany after the Wall fell, and picked their favourite common shroom but the genealogy changes with geography and it killed them all.

Daughter asks me to go with Grandkids to Epping Forest when i am back, answer is always no as stuff i know could be deadly

Right now here the forest floor is a pure carpet of shrooms all Toxic - it’s beautiful to see but deadly to eat.

(Quick test is to slice shroom -stick tongue out bring shroom to touch tongue lightly. Anything bitter spit and chuck shroom away)

I picked 6 yesterday i had not seen before but i was 99% sure they were toxic and wanted to confirm (my MBA Course obv) I was congratulated on being right - deadly but looked like Chanterelle Shrooms

Once ingested there’s not a lot can be done for some of them
