Fuck Volkswagen.

Leaving people in the dark is the least of their crimes. Turned a job down at the legal firm that was handling their diesel defence case.

There is a theory that dieselgate was only superficially about emissions and that what Volkswagen did was not very remarkable in an industry rife with such practices. It was really about the US punishing Germany for moving forward with Nord Stream. Volkswagen weren’t the only company to be dragged in to the scandal but the German economy is disproportionately dependent on the success of diesel engines and the US were well aware of this pressure point.

It’s not a great reference, but it’s alluded to here:

Heartbreaking loss of life and wonderful flying machines

Horrible. :frowning:

When I was at Bonneville watching the racing in 2011 a friend was leaving early to catch the Reno Air Show the next day. That day a WWII Mustang crashed killing the pilot and 10 others on the ground. Fortunately my friend wasn’t in that part of the showground.

Read a headline on CNN stating UK has ordered Chinese company to stop taking over Britain’s biggest chip maker. Rushed into the article to see who would be making my frozen chips in future - yes, you’ve guessed it - wrong kind of chips!

Earlier this week a US friend caught the news that the latest piece of military naval equipment was moored in Stokes Bay, Gosport. He pleaded with me to go and take a picture and despite telling him there were pictures all over the UK media, he said he would rather have one of mine. Today was the last day of the visit so I checked on its position on a live shipping tracker and it was was still there.

Got to Stokes Bay just as the USS Gerald R Ford had slipped anchor and was turning to head for who knows where.

Gary got his picture…

No that’s Roger the cabin boy.

Just in case you’re not aware how much you’re being ripped off for fuel, Brent crude was now down to $81 a dollar today. That should mean unleaded at about £1.40 and diesel £1.55. My local independent today was £1.43 and £1.64. Supermarkets way higher.

Courts to rule today on whether Scotland can hold an independence referendum.
Sadly, I can’t think of any reason why I should care about this, but some interesting questions get raised.
I trust, unlike Russia, Scotland will allow the Scottish islands a separate referendum, or will anyone close by be said to be “part of Scotland for ever”?
Will they (Scotland) call a “partial mobilisation” to fill up the vacancies in their army? Will they buy all their army equipment from England?
Same questions to be asked about their navy.

Can we not let them have the referendum let them leave then invade them ?

Works for Russia.
