Back in 2018 you may remember I did some Golf stuff. In Paris.
The Ryder Cup had a similar “near disaster”.
Simply put, the staff and volunteers were required to be on site at 6am.
All people entering the site were subject to ticket (pass) checks and airport style security.
Unfortunately the planning (as it was later discovered) was handled by a team of French Interns, not the European Tour, so nobody had the experience to realise that the Staff could not enter until the Security lanes were opened. And then neglected to tell the Police.
So train after train delivered Staff who could not get onto the site as Plod said Non.
Eventually enough gt through the “Rear Entrance” which was next to our dedicated Volunteer Car Park and opened up the lanes.
By this time, Spectators were arriving en masse due to the 06:30 gate opening and the charge to get the best seats in the main Grandstand.
Plod got angsty, people got slapped and EVERYONE was late getting in. At one point they came very close to having to delay the start which would then play havoc because of Daylight.
The Internal Inquiry found that “The French” did not communicate with “The Organisers”
4 years later, sounds like no lessons were learned
