⚽ The European Finals Matchday Threads

Shit game, i watched it in my local in West Derby surrounded by Liverpudlians of the red persuasion. I look upon it as penance, i have a year now when i can be as debauched as i like!. I have to say part of me says serve Poch right for dropping the guy who scored the hat trick in the semi-final which got them there against all the odds, and giving his place in the side to Harry Kane. Who was clearly miles away from being match fit, which Pochettino must have known. So why did he do it? As a purely footballing decision it made no sense at all, defied all logic. Clearly influences from outside the dressing room were brought to bear in the decision to play Kane, who has been hyped up since the 2018 World Cup as a national treasure. Pochettino is an astute manager, he must have known that a Kane who hadn’t played for 2 months shouldn’t have started the game on merit, on the bench fair enough. Weak management from Pochettino, giving Harry Kane a chance to win a European Cup medal took precedence over picking the side that was best able to do the job. Serves them right.

“Team that can spend £75m on one player wins tricky knock-out competition against team that hasn’t spent a bean in two transfer windows”

No shit !

In hindsight, would have loved Ajax to have beaten Spurs.

I agree it was the wrong call but it goes no way to explaining how monumentally shit Spurs managed to be. I’ve never seen them, as a team, put so many simple passes astray.

But if Spurs playing like 11-year-olds was surprising, what was more amazing is that they were still the better team.

During the match I kept boring @Rust-Cohle with my prediction that the ball was light, the grass was long or the stadium too hot. I really can’t explain the two team’s performances.

If I see an open-topped bus driving through Liverpool on my TV I’m throwing the thing out the fucking window.

Glad to say I didn’t watch it. Had a few sociable sherries in good company instead. Seems I made the right choice.

You could lift an open top bus?

Good lords, BBC Sport is sickening today…

:lou_facepalm_2: Why oh why did you think it would be any different. I’ve not read a single report on football today…it’s all Cricket for me for the next few weeks.

You aren’t alone. I’m not reading the papers or watching the news for the foreseeable future, can someone phone me when it’s safe to leave the house?

You’ll be lucky. In 6 months they’ll be calling it the greatest final ever.
Don’t ever look at football articles again, would be the safest option and if you’re ever tempted, just picture Carragher, spittle flying everywhere, screaming how much they deserve it, 6 inches from your face.

The ladies have all gone to see the parade. This is not a bit of peace and quiet I’d normally get

I doubt they’ll bump into @Barry-Sanchez. He’ll be in full kit on a different part of the ring road.
