The City boss staged a 50-minute inquest behind closed doors after their fifth game without a win.
John Stones gifted a first half opener to Southampton when he played in Nathan Redmond with a misplaced pass.
Kelechi Iheanacho rescued a point with a second-half equaliser but Guardiola made his feelings clear to his squad despite returning to the top of the Premier League on goal difference.
The City boss attempted to play down the lock-in afterwards though.
“The red wine was good and I took a little bit longer,” he said.
“We were together, we speak but nothing special. We speak about what is the situation.”

Nathan Redmond says he knew Man City would give Southampton some chances
The Saints winger scored the opener after pouncing on John Stones’s horrendous first half mistake.
Kelechi Iheanacho rescued a point for City after the break but Redmond said: “We knew they would give us chances, because they only play with three at the back.
“As soon as I saw the opportunity I anticipated it and then I had to keep a cool head, which I’ve been working on since I came to the club.
“We can take the positives. We’ve come away with a point, but with our mentality in the squad, we want all three points at the end of the day.
“Even if we draw, we’re frustrated that we didn’t get all three points. But we’ll take the point and we’ll keep going.
“We’ve got some good form now in the league, so we’ll look to continue that moving forward.”

John Stones’ error leads to Southampton goal against Man City

Manchester City were left to rue another defensive mistake as they drew 1-1 with Southampton on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola saw his side punished for a number of defensive errors in a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, and they were made to pay again against Saints after John Stones’ poor backpass gifted Nathan Redmond a 27th-minute opener.
Asked about Stones’ mistake, Guardiola said: "Once again it’s not difficult but they are human beings and it happens.
“We spoke about it after the last game to try and avoid it and we’ll repeat that again. It’s difficult at this level and we have to be more clinical in this way.”
City managed to fight back and claim a point thanks to a second-half goal from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.
However, they have now gone five games without a win in all competitions and next up is a clash with Manchester United in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

The Premier League has been and gone for another weekend with talking points aplenty once more dominating the back pages.
Manchester City clung on to top spot with a point against Southampton, but are level on points with Arsenal and Liverpool.
Chelsea and Tottenham are on their heels, just a point further back, after the Blues demolished City’s neighbours United on Sunday.
So - what did we learn from the 10 fixtures over the course of Saturday and Sunday? Look no further…
You can take the boy out of north London but you can’t take the north London out of the boy, and all that comes with it.
Jack Wilshere may not be in Arsenal colours this season but that was never going to spare him dogs’ abuse from the Tottenham fans.
They jeered his every touch. The reception when his name was read out was so predictable even the PA announcer couldn’t resist a chuckle.
The good news for Wilshere was a first 90 minutes for Bournemouth with Southgate watching on.

They are better than that, but have to prove it.

It may have been his home bow, but Bradley showed he was not afraid to make the big calls.

They were only slightly better during the second period - and then conceded late on. Moyes needs time to sort this mess. The worry is that he might not get it.
He was desperately disappointing against United on Monday, rushing his passing to the point of hysteria, but he was only SO disappointing because you know he can do stuff like he tortured West Brom with.
His dummy to create the first goal defined the game, a moment of pure class that turned a tight contest on its head.
And his turn inside and stunning near post finish showed a player who is maturing.
He’s at an age now where he could take the next step towards world class level.

All week, Pep Guardiola has faced criticism for his refusal to change his ways.

This time it was John Stones who messed up as he tried to play the ball across defence to Vincent Kompany.
