Five games in to the 2016/17 Premier League season and already conclusions are being drawn.
And so on.
These may all turn out to be true over the course of this campaign, but it is worth remembering it is still early days.
For example, take a look at how the Premier League table stood this time last year.
There are some similarities with this season’s table after five matches, with Manchester City top having banked a maximum 15 points, and Sunderland and Stoke struggling at the bottom.
And look who’s sat in fourth again…
Just like last season, after five games there’s a surprise challenger in second place: for last season’s Leicester, see this year’s Everton (two points closer to City than the Foxes were).
The champions are off the pace again, as Leicester sit eight points behind top spot (not quite as bad as Chelsea being 11 points adrift after five matches last September).
So how did the table end up in 2015/16? Take a look here…
So, perhaps some hope for the clubs chasing Man City this time round, as well as clubs like Sunderland and Stoke struggling at the bottom.
Only time will tell how much bearing the early season form has on this year’s Premier League, but this is a reminder that nothing is done and dusted yet.
Far from it.

Charlie Austin admits frustration at starting on Southampton bench
Show/hide article…
Southampton striker Charlie Austin admitted his frustration at dropping to the bench against Swansea but accepts he has to bide his time.
Austin scored twice in the midweek Europa League win over Sparta Prague but still found himself back among the subs on Sunday.
However, he came on to grab the winner against the Swans – and also hit the crossbar – to give manager Claude Puel his first Premier League victory.
“I was frustrated, of course, because I had scored two and wanted to keep that run going,” he said.
"But we’ve got a great squad here and they’re all fighting for places. The manager wants to play a rotation system and he’s the boss.
"Strikers are credited on goals. Stats don’t lie and, for me, I like to be in the box to score goals. But to be honest I should have scored three.
"The win on Thursday gave us a platform and we knew we needed to get a win in the league and we showed a good team spirit.
“Like the manager said, we’re going to use the squad.”
Swansea were lucky to escape with only a 1-0 defeat as Saints missed a host of opportunities, could have been awarded a penalty and had what appeared to be a perfectly good Shane Long goal disallowed.
Midfielder Jack Cork – a former Southampton player – admitted his side have to improve.
“It was disappointing for us,” he told Swansea’s website. "In the first half I felt we did okay, and in the second half we were confident we could get something.
"We had some good spells and created chances, but we’ve got to work defensively as a team to limit their chances.
“But they had enough chances to win the game and deservedly did that.”

Kevin De Bruyne and Nacer Chadli star in the latest Sky Sports Fantasy Football team of the week
We look at the Sky Sports Fantasy Football team of the week following a weekend of stunning displays.
Manchester City and Arsenal were somewhat surprisingly joined by West Brom and Crystal Palace in netting four times, while Leicester, Everton and Watford all hit trebles as 36 goals were scored across the 10 games.
Here are the key men behind some big performances…
In a free-scoring weekend of Premier League action, only three goalkeepers kept a clean sheet, with Zieler, who was making his full Leicester debut, making the team of the week courtesy of being cheaper than both Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris (£7.4m) and Southampton’s Fraser Forster (£6.4m).
The Austrian international, who added an assist to his clean sheet, had no such pressure to prove his credentials after ending Leicester’s title winning campaign as one of Sky Sports Fantasy Football’s leading scoring defenders.
Pep Guardiola’s decision to play left-back Kolarov in a central role paid off on Saturday, with the Serbian spraying the ball all over the park to see him hit the passing bonus second tier, having completed over 70 successfully.
Zuniga influence was more of a quick-fire one, scoring with his first touch in Watford’s victory over Manchester United and then earning the penalty which sealed the 3-1 win.
Tony Pulis may not have been blown away by his club’s summer arrivals but their record signing certainly proved his worth, bagging a brace and assisting another two goals in West Brom’s 4-2 victory over West Ham.
Chadli may have topped the charts for the week, but it is another former Tottenham player who is Sky Sports Fantasy Football’s top scorer this season after netting for the fourth time in five games, having failed to find the net in 33 appearances last season.
The Belgian continues to be the masterful force at the heart of Guardiola’s side, scoring one and assisting another in Manchester City’s 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth.
Gareth Barry may have marked his 600th Premier League performance with a goal in Everton’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough, but it was his central-midfield partner who claimed the man of the match award for his commanding display, having hit the second tier of tackling and passing bonus points during the comeback victory.
A third former Spurs player completes our midfield, with Townsend capping a superb 4-0 victory for Crystal Palace over Stoke with a sublime strike, while also securing the Sky Sports Man of the Match award for his menacing display.
Arsenal’s Chilean star would have been challenging Chadli for the week’s top scorer award had he not missed a penalty, but he still managed to rack up a healthy tally with a brace against Hull’s 10 men.
Leicester’s deadline day club record signing left some scratching their heads, with Ahmed Musa already added to a title-winning attack, but the Algerian proved his worth with two headed goals on his Premier League debut.

Ryan Bertrand hails impact of Charlie Austin after victory over Swans
Show/hide article…
Ryan Bertrand has hailed the impact of Charlie Austin after his strike secured a first Premier League victory for Southampton this season.
Southampton manager Claude Puel started Shane Long and Nathan Redmond in attack against Swansea at St Mary’s, but it was substitute Austin who broke the deadlock in the second-half.
After his brace against in the Saints’ 3-0 win against Sparta Prague in the Europa League earlier in the week, Austin hit the winner against the Swans in the 64th minute to secure a second consecutive win for Puel’s men.
‘It takes time with changes. The boys are really digging in and listening and trying to implement what the manager wants in matches,’ Bertrand told saintsfc.co.uk.
'The last couple of games you’ve seen the impact Charlie has had. In other games, other players come to the fore, but we’re good in terms of attacking options and we have a good mentality.
'The win will lift spirits all round, but we won’t be getting carried away. It’s a long season.
‘We can still improve so much more as a team. We’ve got to keep working hard.’
Having missed the opening game of the season against Watford due to a troublesome knee injury, Bertrand is now fit and firing for his club and featured for the full 90 minutes against Swansea.
‘I’m alright. There is no pain anymore and we’re managing it well with the medical team,’ added the Saints defender.
‘I have to be a little bit smart with my performances at the moment, but it’ll only be a matter of time before I’m back at it full steam.’

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand defends Claude Puel after this controversial decision
Show/hide article…
Austin turned super-sub to fire Saints to a 1-0 win over Swansea on Sunday – handing Puel his first Premier League win. Former QPR hit-man Austin also struck twice as the south coast side thumped Sparta Prague 3-0 in their Europa League opener. England left back Bertrand said: “Some decisions the manager makes he might not want to make but it will be for the best for the team.
“Charlie is a finisher and when he is on the field he is always a threat” “We have to make sure we get the right result when he does make changes so the pressure does not come back to him. “Charlie is a finisher and when he is on the field he is always a threat. When the ball drops to him you know where it is going. “Our forwards are all good finishers. We just have to put the ball in the box.” Bertrand admits the Swansea win eases the pressure on Frenchman Puel, who had taken only two points from his first four games after replacing Ronald Koeman in the summer.
Former Chelsea defender Bertrand said: “A win’s a win, especially as we have been searching for the three points for a few games now. “We created a lot of chances and will take that as a positive. “It takes the pressure off. Results bring positivity and we can take a lot from the previous two games.”

Romeu backs Puel’s rotation policy
Show/hide article…
ORIOL Romeu insists that Claude Puel’s squad rotation is vital to Saints’ chances of succeeding this season.
Puel hasn’t been short of critics during the early stages of his St Mary’s reign, but after back-to-back victories the concerns over tactics and selection have dissipated.
And the Spanish midfielder has now backed his boss’s policy ahead of tomorrow’s night’s League Cup match at home to Crystal Palace.
“No, I think it is good,” the former Chelsea man stated. “We need to keep winning and just doing the same, and rotation is important to keep everyone fresh for the next challenge.
“The season is very long with a lot of games and competition. The whole squad is important, we are proving that so far and we just want to keep doing the same.”
Puel has chopped and changed to cope with the overflowing fixture list, making seven changes for the 3-0 win over Sparta Prague and then six as Saints recorded their first Premier League win of the campaign against Swansea.
There may well be more of the same for Palace’s visit.
“Whoever is playing knows his job, knows what we have to do on the pitch,” said Romeu, who turns 24 on Saturday.
“We have a great squad and great numbers, so whoever’s out there will do his job properly.”
The ex-Barcelona man has no concerns over the team’s fitness, despite the unforgiving run of games.
“We are professional players and we need to be ready for the next games, so physically we are good,” he said. “It’s something we’re not worried about.”
Alan Pardew’s side visit St Mary’s tomorrow on their own run of two wins in a row, after beating Stoke and Middlesbrough.
Romeu insists that Saints will be taking the tournament seriously even though they are already battling on two fronts in Europe and in the Premier League.
He said: “We need to keep our positive run going and the League Cup is as important as any game. We want to go through. We want to win and want to do our best.
“Any competition is a chance to win and be in a great place, but it’s going to be hard.
“Crystal Palace also have a great squad, but we are happy and want to keep winning.”
