Unlike Barca in most years, they have a very ageing (and thus declining value) squad, plus a huge debt, plus they spend 70% of all income (which is also currently in huge decline) on wages.
I believe they have the highest wage bill in world football.
So rushing to buy Neymar back, or VVD, will take some doing, never mind replacing Messi
