:scotchland: The Adventures of the SNP

Fair enough. I’ll concede the -ist bit for the group.

Still applies to the individuals. A Scottish Nattional describes any Scot.

A Scottish nationalist is someone who has fallen for Nicola’s threadbare plate-spinning act. I agree with @Donkey_Schlong, btw. Independence is the last thing these wankers want.

Assessed as politicians doing a job of representation they’d be off the fucking gravy train sharpish.

They do much better striving for independence while doing fuck all. Some very sensible people are fooled.

This is just the latest example to support the hypothesis that the true tragedy of the Corbyn era is how it has laid bare the homogenous shiteness of the politics of the large majority of the nation’s comedy heroes.

Just confirmed. Craig Murray found guilty of contempt of court. Sentencing May 7th.

Appeal likely.

What a fucking mess. You could be William Wallace and still feel unease at the way the machinery of the Scottish state has been deployed to save wee Nicky and her corrupt cohort of pals.

Will this hurt the SNP in the May elections?

It may cause a blip, but up here the majority of folks that vote SNP are not committed to that party, simply seeing it as a route to independence. The SNP has a few more balanced politicians floating inside nasty wee bag of shite, but its seen asa means to an end.

Alex Salmond also announced this yesterday:

There’s also a whole identity politics scandal based on transphobia which Sturgeon used to see off her main rival for the leadership (Joanna Cherry). That could yet come back to bite her.

There are high profile people who are going to stand against the SNP, e.g. Galloway, Bonnie Prince Bob (watch his videos above If you haven’t already) and Craig Murray (who was also shaping to stand and could theoretically be sentenced the day after he becomes an MSP).

Nevertheless, sadly I suspect the executive’s strong grip on the Scottish MSM and the perception that the SNP have done a reasonably good job on COVID will likely mean that enough people are kept in the dark to prevent major hurt to the party.

This shakes thing up:

Splitter!

The really interesting question of course, is who’s bankrolling him?

Wee Nicky’s arch nemesis, infamously free and easy with the cash.

“Bit of a splurge on”, I believe they call him.

Is that some sort of code? I’m afraid I’m none the wiser mate.

The SNP, after they get taken to the cleaners in court again?

It is an interesting question. But I don’t see it as necessarily unlikely that wealthy Scottish interests exist who support independence and who aren’t happy with the SNP.

IMO that’s far more likely then clandestine Unionist/Westminster interests. The fact is that Alex Salmond has done far more for Scottish independence then Nicola Sturgeon has done.

Note that he is only standing list candidates. (I.e. second vote candidates).

I believe it is joke that relies on you acknowledging the rythmic similarity between the phrase

“Bit of a splurge on”

And the name

“Nicola Sturgeon”

Ah, thanks for that. I’m afraid I couldn’t for the life of me imagine Nicola Sturgeon bankrolling Alex Salmond’s new party, for them to stand against her in the elections! I assume that Salmond will be disclosing how the new party is being funded, and by whom. I would imagine any Jock of normal intelligence contemplating voting for them would like to know.

I think the Workers Party are going the same, e.g. standing in the list elections. There’s an Alliance4Unity thing going on up there which is so hardcore on tactical voting George Galloway is voting Tory in his seat.

I don’t know if it’s enough, but I am certain of one thing. If the SNP can’t run a disciplinary process correctly or fairly there’s no way they should be allowed to run a fucking country.

I feel your pain!

Shall we send you a picture of Ursula to lick?

The public record is a lot of fun sometimes.

Back in 2015, Sturgeon does an interview with Andrew Neil after good election results but a dismal budget deficit.

Spoiler warning. Neil says that Scotland has a fundamental deficit problem. Sturgeon says its a blip and that Scotland’s position would improve over the next five years.

Let’s spin forward to 2019-20, the last year it’s really fair to assess both claims.

Oops.

The figures from the Scottish Government show Scotland’s notional deficit rose from £13.1 billion in 2018-19 to £15.1 billion in 2019-20. This is more than Scotland’s entire health budget for the year, which was £13.8 billion in 2019-20.

Union dividend of £1,941 for every person in Scotland - GOV.UK.

uhm… fair enough, but maybe take a look at the ‘UK’ national debt versus the annual NHS budget for context (no need to worry about the extra 350m a week they were promised)
