Heads exploding over at the Daily Mail and Telegraph. Back to square one, they’ll have to come up with something else now. They will have to get their skates on, election’s in two months.
Not sure about that, you know. This entire affair has been characterised by key evidence not being shared at the right time. If the sequence of events Davis described are accurate, the SNP won’t have heard the end of this.
Haha, it’s really grinded your gears eh! David Davis is Alex Salmond’s oldest and closest friend in Westminster, he’s already been challenged by one of the people he named under parliamentary privilege to repeat it outside of Parliament. Do you really think the average Jock doesn’t know what’s going on here? They’re not as gullible as the Red Wallers this side of Hadrians Wall, these hypocritical shenanigans have been the best recruiting sargeant the SNP could have had.
You’re absolutely right that Salmond and David Davis are mates but everything David Davis said was absolutely true.
The mail and telegraph will be delighted that sturgeon has kept her place since it makes independence less likely to happen.
As Pap says, her position is still not stable though. She’s fucked a huge amount of people off and with AFI and ISP standing candidates because of dissatisfaction with SNP dragging feet on 2nd referendum the Hollywood elections could be very interesting.
And you know all this how?
It’s a lousy job but you asked & someone had to do it.
If The Mail and Telegraph are rooting for Sturgeon to keep her place, they’ve had a funny way of showing it for the past year.
It’s called maintaining a pretence. Also no one gives a fuck about the mail and telegraph in Scotland so they can say what they want.
Craig Murray has been covering this story in huge detail for well over 2 years and on Thursday he’s likely to be sent to prison for a part that he played.
If everything David Davis said was absolutely true, he won’t mind repeating it outside on Parliament Green then will he? Oh — hang on a minute.
Nationalists tend to.
You onboard with them?
Nationalists tend to what?
I think the huge detail part is the issue, perhaps too much detail as he is going down for contempt of court
Grind my gears.
Why would he want to risk getting embroiled in his own Scottish court case particularly when Scottish law has been shown up by this very case to have been completely subverted (as he pointed out during his speech) by the conflict of interest of the Crown office?
This thread gives a reasonably good flavour of the shenanigans which have been pulled throughout this case:
The Craig Murray jigsaw identification thing is absolute dogshit and absolutely stinks.
No, I’m neither on board nor off board. I’m not Scottish, don’t live there so not really my business. What I am on board with though is the right of a nation to self determination if independence is what they want. As a nation they voted comfortably to remain in the EU, in the Independence referendum they were told if they wanted to remain they should vote against independence. They have a right to feel aggrieved about that. Also they are being governed, from London by a party that has absolutely no democratic mandate in their country and has been overwhelmingly rejected in democratic elections. They have a right to feel aggrieved about that too. I suspect that if they win independence then the SNP will probably cease to exist in their present form, their mission as they see it would be achieved, a bit like the Brexit Party here.
What I have found nauseating is the rank hypocrisy on the part of the opposition parties with their attempts to bring Sturgeon down, and I freely admit to being pleased that they have all received a rotten cabbage squarely between the eyes. I include the state broadcaster in that. Last week they led the 6-o clock news just about every day with lengthy items which were barely concealed attack pieces on Sturgeon, how she would have to resign bla bla bla. Tonight, after she had been cleared she was relegated to ‘and in other news’ about half way through. Last week they even had a Panorama special about her, with contributions from the four Unionist’s on the committee declaring Sturgeon’s guilt, even though they were in the middle of their deliberations. They were calling for her resignation before she had even given her eight hours of evidence to the committee, furiously and constantly giving the impression that her guilt was a foregone conclusion, it has been a full on state organized hatchet job, she has received the full Jeremy Corbyn treatment. Anyone who thinks the upcoming elections are purely coincidental is surely terminally naive. The established order in England are terrified of Scottish independence and will try anything they can to put a lid on it. But in their hapless way they are just strengthening the independence calls, they really are hopeless. And I hope there is an immediate investigation as to who leaked parts of the report before it was published, leakers must surely do the honourable thing and resign!
The sheer hypocrisy of Tories like Ross, (no stranger himself to accusations of misleading parliament), Tank Commander Ruth Davidson et al, calling for a resignation for misleading parliament when if these standards were applied to the government half the ministers would be relegated to the backbenches. Hancock, Patel, Gove, Jenryck, the list is endless. Johnson misleads and lies just about every time he gets to his feet. But Sturgeon must resign for allegedly doing it. And Sir Keith, calling for her to resign if she was found guilty, but actually saying that Hancock shouldn’t resign after he was clearly found to have stood up in the chamber and lied because,“It’s not what the British people want”, ie, that’s what our focus group in the red wall tell us. This hypocrisy is open and obvious, and the Jocks can see it, they’re not stupid, that’s what will drive even more people to the SNP. They are being treated with open contempt. The Tories and, sadly Labour, have bet the farm on this burn the witch get Sturgeon campaign and will fully deserve the shit that will be shoveled on them in May.
The noble and gracious Baroness Davidson, a ludicrous figure IMO, should apologize to Sturgeon for trying to prejudice the outcome of the inquiry. And no chips for Ruthie tonight. Somebody’s just pissed all over them.
You’re wrong. It’s the complete opposite. Sturgeon has delayed and delayed and effectively deferred to Boris Johnson through article 30 on indyref2 all the way along. It’s only in the news now because there is an election coming up, but it’ll be on the back burner again if she gets a comfortable enough result. If she wanted it, she would have gone hard on independence as soon as the Brexit vote came out bit she did nothing of the sort.
Wrongdoing is wrongdoing. In a sense, Sturgeon’s clearance today could still be her undoing. There’s going to be more dirt thrown at her which throws her innocence in doubt.
Just remember that she and her ilk are self described nationalists. They didn’t have to use that word. They could have rebranded. Instead, they’ve got the same name they had as when they were conspiring with the Nazis, so it doesn’t look good.
What could she have done after the Brexit result, she was in no position to do anything. What I have seen is her consistently calling for an independence referendum. Are you seriously putting forward the proposition that Sturgeon doesn’t want independence for Scotland? Seriously? What is she a Unionist mole? But I forget, you believe that The Telegraph and Mail are strong backers of Sturgeon, despite all evidence to the contrary. You should pop over to the Mail and see their take on today’s news, a hard ask I know, they are knee deep in spittle. I fail to see how in the real world you could possibly come to the conclusions about this affair that you have, I’m sorry but it’s nonsensical to me. Methinks you have another agenda here.
If we equate Scottish independence with Jeremy Corbyns progressive politics.
It’s the same as with the Labour party. Both the centrists and the Tories wanted JC’s progressive policies to fail.
Likewise The SNP are divided. They are dominated by careerist neoliberals like sturgeon but also have a progressive wing. Except I say again the progressive wing in this case is most interested in independence. Most of SNP’s membership however, really want independence but the careerists want careers and gravy.
Therefore there is a natural union between the unionists and the gravy trainers. The problem is the membership just as kier starmer pretended to beprogressive to win over the membership. Sturgeon does the same.
All sturgeon actually needs to do to initiate independence is hold a referendum. Asking for Westminster’s permission is a fallicy. Independence never comes that way.
Simply not true pap. They are the Scottish National Party, not Nationalist Party. I know Johnson always calls them Nationalist Party, despite Blackford calling for the speaker to order Johnson to stop with the lie. She is also on record as saying if she could turn the clock back she would change the name of the party because of these false connotations. She has admitted the word “national” was hugely problematic.
“What those of us who support Scottish independence are all about could not be further removed from some of what you would recognize as nationalism in other parts of the world”
“Two things I believe that run so strongly through the Scottish independence movement are firstly that it doesn’t matter where you come from, if Scotland is your home and you live here and have a stake in the country, you are Scottish and you have as much say over the future as I do”
How is that nationalism? That is an open, inclusive view of the world that is far removed from nationalism.
“Secondly, one of the great motivators for those of us who support Scottish independence is wanting to have a bigger voice in the world, it’s about being outward looking and internationalist, not inward looking and insular”
That last bit sums you up to a T, oh the irony. And the hysterical nonsense about conspiring with the Nazis, we’ve been here before haven’t we, over a few years in the Brexit debates. Remainers were quislings, Nazi collaborators, endless references to the war etc etc.
It was nasty right wing little Englander nationalism then, as it is now, and does you no credit.
