:scotchland: The Adventures of the SNP

MP Margaret Ferrier in court accused of breaking coronavirus regulations | The Scotsman

She’s got some neck on her. Even if they bang her up, I think she’s still an MP. Didn’t Aitken serve time while representing his constituents?

Under the Representation of the People Act 1981, you are disqualified from becoming a member of the House of Commons if you have been found guilty of an offence and sentenced to more than one year in prison, and are currently detained as a result of that offence.

Once you are released from prison, you are not prevented from standing for election as an MP.

Technically, you are also able to stand for election while you are in prison, so long as the sentence is one year or less.

So, how have the Tories done in England?

Its also a rather naive sweeping statement. They have made a load of mistakes, but show me any party that has not, and whilst clearly populist given their clearly stated and limited manifesto, Most in Scotland dont see an independent Scotland run by the SNP… they are clearly seen as a means to an end, so any fuck ups they have made is not considered indicative of the performance of a future independent Scottish Government…

You sound all a bit like someone spouting ‘project fear’ nonsense… Maybe I should be like Gove and Boris then and counter with ‘period of pain will be worth it for the opportunities it represents?’

If the sentence is less than a year she can be recalled - if it is just a fine, then she is bulletproof until the election

For someone that isn’t an SNP supporter, you seem to be giving them quite a bit of support. Apologism, frankly. I can understand that you see them as a vehicle to get yourself back into the EU.

They’ve had thirteen years in power. Their record on everything they have autonomy over is shit, more public money is spent on the Scots per head than the English and the furlough bill was covered by the hated Westminster, no questions asked.

The SNP forget all that and I think you do too.

When is Dominic Cummings’ court date, anybody know? Or Stanley Johnson’s, or even his son’s for his seven mile trip with a group of people from different households to go for a bike ride? Nothing to see here, move along.

You forgot to mention the bus - never forget the bus

What bus would that be?

Number 25 Lordshill, hill lane town, then It goes somewhere else, but nobody knows where.

Nope, its just an objective POV, given that their failings are acknowledged, but there raison d’être is transparent, If they had completely fucked up they would struggle to be re-elected

haha… of course I would like to be back in the EU, but as I have always adhered to, it would ideally be as part of a country that has the necessary influence to reform and redirect many of its less attractive or undemocratic elements… we could have done that had we not been constantly pissing on it from within…

Add to that it would likely take years before Scotland would even qualify, and you are once again mistaken if you believe I am hanging out for that nugget. You have always enjoyed making up bollocks - you are in effect shouting at clouds of your own making…

No, years of Tory Westminster with no foreseeable change (and if you believe Labour will be back in any reasonable timeframe you are sadly deluded) has been enough for me to consider how independence might work …or not

That old chestnut… Firstly, more is spent per capita in NI than in Scotland, but that’s a mute point. The issue of the perceived ‘unfairness’ of the Barnett formula is not down to the Scots… Westminster played that card during Indy Ref 1 staying it would not mess with it…
But the historical base line levels on which increases are based should and could be changed, but think for moment why it was/is necessary?

Purely from geographical perspectives, providing public services to the more remote locations costs more per capita… obviously that becomes more challenging should the Scots be fending for themselves, but if that is what they want…

As to the Furlough scheme, that is additional funding for ALL the UK, neither England, Scotland or Wales or NI had this in there budgets and its a UK policy so rightly all home nations benefitted. An independent Scotland would have had to increase its borrowing, especially as not part of EU for some time… so what is your point?

Nope, I cant speak for the SNP, but please dont speak for me…

I’m not speaking for anyone. I’m drawing conclusions from your conitnued apologism for a bunch of badly dressed clowns that can’t get changed because all the skeletons will come rocketing out of the closet.

No worries Barry… Drawing such conclusion and making such assumptions, is just a tad naive/deliberately provocative … and a total load of bollocks

Wee Jock Plant Pot McPlop.

I might add, that if I am an apologist for anyone, its anyone who is considering independence because its only for a tiny and insignificant minority that is is based on your perception of rampant racism… and NOT the SNP, who i have never had any time for.

If you actually stopped being a prick about it for 1 minute you would have recognised that in the posts… ironically, your responses appear to be ‘prejudiced’ in their nature

Oh aye, it’s clear from this thread that you have no time for the SNP. None at all.

Like I said, if you stopped being hell bent on stirring shit up/trolling, you might see it… but you bore me so I’ll leave it there.

I really don’t know what to make of the Salmond/Sturgeon spat? Why would 9 women conspire against him over the sex pest claims, especially as he seems to admit to a level of poor behaviour? Like Woody Allen, he also has the look of a perv, but that doesn’t mean that either of them is. As for Sturgeon, her whole career is on the line if she lied.strange business. Who to believe?

As Salmond says two judges and one jury have come down on his side

The SNP and sturgeon cannot be entirely innocent - they have wriggled and squirmed and obfuscated way too much

Reading Twitter it seemed that Sturgeon had boiled babies for breakfast or something.
Yet today, it seems to be that she “couldn’t remember” a date, and she “might” have broken the Ministerial Code.

I don’t see Hancock in the same mess.

It all seems, just, well, very Scottish.

That said, it is one wholly awful mess and yet another example of why the (majority) of people who aspire to be Politicians (anywhere) should never be allowed to stand for office
