The party of the working people. Strong, stable and now so fair.

Hey I get it. It will be nice to leave all your worldly wealth to the binlids when you croak.

Trouble is when the oldies were paiying into the system for pensions and care - they weren’t supposed to live until they were ninety five - they were supposed to peg out at 70.

We have two choices - tax the shite out of the younger generations to pay for the care or ask the older generation to pay for their own care out of the wealth that they have accumulated.

I really am a bit surprised by the social care aspect of their manifesto. It’s going to piss off a lot of traditional Tory voters, I’d have thought (Cherts excepted, of course).

Basically, if you live in rented housing and have no assets (money in the bank, etc) the Government will pay for your social care. However, if you have managed to create a good life style and accrue assets and wealth for you and your family you will be penalised. So, what is the point of creating wealth that you cannot leave to your family? If you’re very-super wealthy, you’ll make sure any assets you have are squirreled away in an off-shore fund somewhere, or some kind of trust. If you’re very poor, you’ll probably benefit. This will really effect that swathe of middle-class people who have a house and some assets which they hoped to leave to their kids. The lesson from this is make sure you have no assets over £100k …

Life expectancy has gone up from 71.13 in 1960 to 81.06 in 2014 but has been dropping since then. Take out pension age rises as well and it’s really not a big difference in 50 odd years.

Why tax the shit out of the young, how about taking back any tax breaks received during austerity(only the better off received them). Other countries manage in fairer ways, why can’t we?

But in pension pay out terms the average time someone excepts to receive a pension for has increased from 6 years to 14 years

More than double - that is a significant increase

Doesn’t make any sense does it? On one hand the Gonernment is saying: "We can’t tax the rich as it will diinsentivize wealth creation, on the other they are saying “fuck you we’ll have all the wealth you’ve created.”

Yes, no cap as you can’t have a cap on care costs, but once you hit that £100k the council takes on the costs. The last £100k is always keep.

Yet to hear a good reason as to why it’s a bad idea…

No it’s not, the lesson is don’t go into care. Or start leaving money to your kids earlier, at times in earlier life when they will likely need it most, not when they’re in their 50’s and all they’ll do is spend it on a Honda Jazz.

What about the raising of the personal allowance that was brought in? You happy to take money out of their pockets?

Reasons why it’s a bad idea (and the current system is a bad idea as well, for that matter):

  1. It is inherently unfair. If you are unlucky enough to need long term care, your assets are used up. If you are lucky enough to have relatively good health until you’re in your 90s and then, suddenly, pop your clogs, your wealth and assets are retained for your children and grandchildren to enjoy. So it’s down to luck of the draw…

  2. It discourages wealth accumulation. Why bother building up a fund of assets if they’re going to be used up for care when you’re old. You can do two things: cheat the system to ensure you have no assets on paper (trust funds etc); or not bother building up the assets in the first place.

How long do you reckon that figure will remain at £100K cherts. What happens when the council says"sorry, not got the funding".

All they have to do is bring in euthenasia and we are sorted! Dont go into care? What are you supposed to do if you are old an infirm and your family are working and dont have the time to look after you? Perhaps we should just turn them out onto the streets once they are past it?

???

You reckon most people have a choice? They wake up one morning and say to Doris “I know, I fancy going into care.”
