I’m confused, didn’t @JackSchitt allude to the fact that Mane was the other one waiting to sign a new contract and it was almost done? Or am I really confused??

Yes, he did.

No, he didn’t.

I mentioned earlier in the manager thread before the latest Mane news broke, that he was one of the two “further down the pipe line” deals, but that with Liverpool interest, that is clearly now in doubt.

I also hinted in that thread on the following page [57], who the other imminent deal is [and on twitter earlier today].

A brief update from earlier [just got in] to pass on, for anyone still interested:

The Mane deal leak did not come from our media department, but rather at the Liverpool end. The fee should be higher than the £30m being reported, told nearer to £35m with various addons.

I mentioned in my very first info that Pelle was likely to move to Lazio, and although there is other interest – that deal is looking a lot closer.

The Club want to bury all their bad news before the new manager comes in next week if possible [Victor and Sadio so far], so if Graziano is indeed to be offski, we would rather it done as soon as possible. Wonderful player that he has been for us, his lack of pace and mobility does not fit in with the way that we want to play, with lashings of pace, agility and clever movement up top, pressing high with heavy workrate. Graziano is just not of that mould, and whilst he loves it at St. Mary’s, is keen on finally landing a big club back home at the peak of his career. So this one could well happen.

After the bad though, I’ve been told that there will also be plenty of good news to follow, with contracts and more incoming business to complete.

Nice and clear on that.

Not really “nice and clear”. I think it’s the phrase “further down the pipeline”. To me, that implies it was further along, close to the end, almost signed and sealed. But from what you’re saying now, it seems you meant the opposite?

FWIW, I took it to mean that Mane was looking promising, but that he wasn’t one of the two.

So I agree that we were given hope re Mane, but I never took it to mean that Mane would be the second contract extension. I assume it will now be…umm…Matty Targett*.

Jack has since gone on to refer to the second contract (Davis being the first), so IF he HAD already said that was Mane was the second, wouldn’t he subsequenly have referred to Mane and not cryptically the second?

*That’s Eastleigh’s own Matty Targett

Sadio, Sadio, Sadio. What are you doing? Going for CL football I can understand. But going to Liverpool? WTF? So then, just about the wedge after all. Unless you are moving to be nearer asshat?

why do people keep saying that? He’s not just moving for money, Liverpool are a huge club, certainly compared to us. They are known all over the world, not something that could be said of Saints. Besides which, what is wrong with moving for a doubling of your wages? I doubt very much that we’ll continue to climb the table whilst Liverpool will always have a chance of doing well, getting Europa or even CL football.

Well Mane is as good as gone…there was a glimmer of hope that he might have kicked against the age old adage that “money talks” but of course in football…Money Shouts. It’s not “ambition” it’s not “because they are a big club” it’s not “because they can offer Champions League” it’s not even “because they can improve me as a player” so get over it we can do little to stop it without busting our wage structure.

We play well as a team because we don’t have Billy Big Bollocks in the side earning x3 everyone else’s wage. I don’t like to lose our sometimes best player but rest assured the £32m or whatever will buy a couple of gems and we’ll be singing a couple of new songs by 13th August. I trust the scousers ability to turn good into mediocre.

We March On. :lou_lol:

I made the point because when do you hear that players in this position are going for the money? It is usually that they want to progress and play CL or at least Europa football. Liverpool. May be a big club but they bugger all going on at the moment. How are we going to feel if Morgan goes to Everton? Is that a step up? Is Liverpool a step up at the moment? Perhaps I would have more respect for these people if they just came out and said I am moving to improve my standard of living and not just give us the bollocks about ambition.

I hate the fact he has gone to Liverpool, but although they are currently just a collection of talented individuals with no idea how to play as a team, they are a MASSIVE club. I went to see Brisbane play a friendly against them last year and the sheer number of “fans” was simply staggering. Walking through the streets before the game was just a riot of colour and noise. The majority of the fans had never even left Australia, let alone visited Anfield. When you look back on a career and you compare winning nothing with Saints or winning nothing with Liverpool, what do you think will stand out more. If he goes back to Senegal what do you think would give him the most cudos (and of course, the most money…). Fact of life, I’m afraid. Let’s just enjoy the ride and the year on year improvement, and WHEN we have a bad season, then perhaps allow ourselves a little whinge…lol.

Yeah, but it’s still fucking Liverpool! They may be a big club but they are not a top four club and their only plan to sit at the top table seems to be to raid one club from the Premiership each summer.

Utd previously offered £35m for Mane, which we all know about but Mane stayed on the advice of his agent who warned him that it would be a big mistake going to Utd with LvG in charge. Mane is a Utd fan.

Mane had expected Utd to be back in for him but they said no, not interested now. His agent then contacted Arsenal, City, Chelsea & Liverpool saying that Saints would accept £35m, the fee previously accepted by Saints, and that Mane would “settle for” a five year contract worth around £30,000.000. Read that again. Thirty Million Quid.

Liverpool moved, the rest didn’t.

The 1st part is old news direct from Mane’s agent and the 2nd part from my Manc connections which as you know, I’ve shared before.

I must admit, I expected him to go to Utd.

We spent 92m on 5 players from Southampton in the last 2 years and have gone from 2nd to 8th. Well done LFC, well done.

considering his age it would be foolish to settle for a deal without a sell on clause or at least a goalie in part-ex.
