🇸🇾 Syria

Its not in your name though is it? You disagree with it like nearly everyone else on here.

That may or may not be the case, KRG; but, I think it’s important that, no matter how much we might disagree with them, we try to understand that people such as Hiliary Benn made their decision for no other reason than they genuinely feel it is the right thing to do.

My new (I have just moved to the constituency) Labour MP voted for. She was the one who had to leave due to people threatening her staff in her office.

That may well be true. But, we’ve got a huge amount of recent evidence to look at that suggests it’s not.

How anyone can think that the way to eliminate a group is to continue enabling said groups biggest recruitment tool is baffling.

It’s really galling, that once again we are far too cowardly to stand up to the Saudi’s, and would rather put people’s lives at risk.

That’s kinder politics for you. Here is STop the War’s response to the condemnation of the online intimidation.

"Stop the War condemns the whining complaints from those MPs who apparently do not like being lobbied.

"If an MP is not robust enough to withstand emails and tweets, they should really not be voting for bombing other people - those who wish to be alone with their consciences would do better to consider a life of religious contemplation.

“Stop the War will continue to hold to democratic account all those MPs who vote for war.”

For all the plaudits Hillary Benn is getting for his oratory, he was almost saying the exact opposite a couple of weeks ago.

Given that the case for war got murkier, rather than clearer, I wonder what changed his mind. Chance to be heir apparent of the Labour Party?

Yep, and he would scare the tories shitless as leader

He’s certainly demonstrated he can outmaneuver them on u-turns.

Self-serving, disloyal, unprincipled flip-flopper. He sounds fucking perfect leader material.

There’s not exactly a lot of positive news coming out of Syria or its environs right now, but here’s one genuinely astonishing piece:

That is, indeed, an uplifting story, Fowllyd. Thanks for posting.

Let’s hope they are allowed the opportunity to continue to build on what they have started.

Leytonstone attack

A man has been tasered by police after a suspected terror attack in a Tube station just days after Parliament voted to extend bombing to Syria.

The suspect is alleged to have been attacking people as they left Leytonstone Underground Station in east London last night.

One witness claims the man shouted “This was for Syria” as he was being led away by police.

Scarily close to home for me, minutes away from where I live. Hope this doesn’t become a trend.

Is this true? Shocking if it is!

Published in July and the source seems to be “reports on some social meda websites”, so I doubt it. Not to say that there aren’t people doing exactly that, mind.

We have just moved to Walthamstow so feels a bit closer to home. Wondering why we left quiet sleepy Poole.

Probably not true but worth having a dig around the internet to see how much some MPs earn on the side while 'representing the people.

Zawahi reportedly earns over 3K a month for 7 hours consultancy work for a recruitment company. His Wiki states he also takes home over 20k a month for unspecified hours working for GulfKeystone Ltd. Plus his 74k a year salary as an MP of course. Oh yeah - and his expenses…

I wonder why he gets paid so much working for an Iraqi oil company - nothing dodgy at all going on there obviously.

Stella Creasy had a meeting today to explain why she voted for bombing Syria. If I was properly registered here I’d have tried to get in. It happened in the school opposite so not to taxing to get to. It was all cloak and daggers but as we went by earlier I had a pretty good idea that’s what was going on.

I wonder if any action will be taken against this fine upstanding example of an honest MP
