Hoedt to Southampton tonight?
By Football Italia staff

Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt will reportedly complete a €17m transfer to Southampton on Friday evening.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, which broke to story of Hoedt bidding farewell to his Lazio teammates on Thursday, the Dutchman’s switch will be finalised shortly.

He is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Saints and will subsequently be overlooked for the Aquile’s Serie A opener against Spal on Sunday.

Sounds like they want more upfront and less ad ons.

Considering the “sell before you buy” message today and the fact that Hoedt looks imminent, I can see VVD going next week. If he was to come back into the fold it would mean Stephens or Yoshida being 4th choice CB again and Bednarek being 5th choice, which I can’t see happening. Wonder if we might move Yoshi on given he’s got one year left on his contract?

I reckon Bednarek will go on loan. Yoshi will sign an extension. Gardos will be sold.

VVD will go in January/next summer.

You would think that Gardos would be on his way. I still dont think that VVD will go this season. Perhaps Bednarek will go out on loan? No sign of a new contract for Yoshi, so yes, perhaps he might move on?

I speculated about this the other day and I reckon Yoshida is waiting until the close of the transfer window (or at least closer towards the deadline) before signing a deal that is already on the table. He will want to know where he stands in the likely pecking order before extending. He won’t want to find himself in a - always the bridesmaid, never the bride - kind of situation after performing admirably last year.

Gardos will go on loan or have the remaining year cancelled by mutual consent - if he can find a club that’ll have him that is. I predict a return to Romanian football or something like that. Cannot see anybody offering a meaningful fee for him due to his injuries.

I agree with @goatboy that Bednarek could go on loan to the Championship etc for a year. Or he stays if Yoshida bounces.

You believing that Times article Mikey?

Rumour has it Wesley is signing tonight

So you believe some Liverpool fan of a journalist rather than what Ralf and the manager say.

Total bullshit.

Am I alone in thinking that additional funds do not include funds for intended transfers. I would think that funds have already been allotted. It’s just saying not to expect additional expensive signings before the window closes.

Away with you and your sensible suggestions. I mean, really.

Haha, it’s possible though. :lou_wink_2:

I said before the season finished I expected VvD to leave.

Tbh, I’d still be surprised if he’s still here come the end of the window.

I see it all as grandstanding, I think if a reasonable offer from a non-merseyside based club comes he’ll be gone double-sharp.

We have made it very clear he goes if someone offers us stupid money. The figure was “70 million”

That was on record and is a get out Wed all accept as we net about 50 of that.

Think the potential buyers have read that as 50 mil gets him. I’m sure we would turn that down

Gazzaniga close to Spurs move…

I wasn’t at the game but Fraser seems so low on confidence. It’s a key position!

Is it a big deal if he goes. Haven’t been keeping an eye on him, but I recall he was a bit of a liability…like Yoshida a,while back (thought he had a bloody good game today tbf).

Bit bizarre that he was still on the bench for them tonight.

Yeah players continuing to do the job they’re paid for before they’ve moved is proper fucking bizarre in this day and age :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
