Really well filmed but definitely slow TV with lots of taking off of hats and bowing. Plot moves along well though.
Mark Rylance excelling as Thomas Cromwell (sad looking / miserable / depressed character?) & Damian Lewis as a credible Henry VIII. Jonathan Pryce playing Cardinal Wolsey in the same manner as Cartwright Senior in Slow Horses.
Weirdly, and a comment just for continuity, it seems to have been set in a parallel universe which was more ethnically diverse in the reign of Henry.
It has an ending.
There are âcallsâ for more or spin offs.
It felt like Lost but I stuck with it and it was a good time filler and went to some places later that made me think. It developed the characters so I cared about them a bit and yeah it rambled but like the Cylons they had a plan
Itâs worth sticking with unless you have a better show to watch through - I decided on about 1000 hours or more of The X Files and into S7 it is still entertaining me but some episodes are meh, it certainly slaps me around the face for only having watched occasional episodes through all my travelling back in those days as I catch up on the actual deep back ground story (no spoilers)
Personally Iâd binge The Rookie buts that is because it is just comfort food and a good ensemble
My spider sense is tingling, Bob. They seem to be working it out as they go along, which is fair enough for the characters but not so much for the writers.
The whole death day thing seems unnecessary. Even the catalyst of a man drowning violently on land was pants both in execution and implications.
Michaela is pretty easy on these buggered old minces, so thatâs nice.
Youâve got to hand it to the show runners. Theyâve basically cut three different genres; mystery, soap opera and police procedural, With just enough to keep you going.
I often thought it was an ensemble soap opera fimed in the same 2 timber framed houses.
Iâve mentioned Have I got News for you launchef a US version.
The host is Roy Wood Jnr - itâs been very anti Trump.
I had wondered how it would cope in the post election meltdown.
So they shipped Roy over to host the English version this week.
A lot of âinâ jokes but I truly was pissing nyself laughing at it, especially how they set Roy up with English place names.
Prime Video #1 World Wide
Based on the books, think it follows on from the films - certainly vibes to the Morgan Freeman one
It is dark, brutal and very tied up in Black Life/Politics BLM and Defund the Police.
This is not candyfloss TV, certainly not one for Mrs P_F but I think it is going to be a thing.
Philâs rating?
I think this is pretty good. Not Reacher good but pretty good
