My Sweet Little Village (on Prime)

A charming undemanding Czech comedy / farce from the ‘80’s

Worth a watch

never? Don’t think I’ve ever sat through a whole one.

Spitting Image, Britbox, was particularly satisfying this week. Somehow, it had managed to line up a succession of people that I don’t really have much time for but the family do.

They’re doing a skit based on auditions to be the next James Bond.

We had :-

  • One Direction’s Harry Styles (my youngest lurved 1D)
  • RuPaul (constantly on in our place)
  • Oprah (who I’m ambivalent about, tbh)
  • James Corden

The latter was particularly satisfying. Feeling like watching them all again. The old show could be hit and miss. The consistency on this one is impressive.

Have only seen clips and haven’t laughed once. I think you are the only person to give it positive reviews!

Please…

I have a guilty pleasure, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina…

A dark re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, started out very teen angsty but has got a lot darker…

One of my daughters is named Sabrina because of the original series… the other is Samantha after Bewitched…

I am now quite enjoying Season 1 of His Dark Materials.

I’ve read the first book and the BBC adaptation is quite different, also very different from the film, which, IIRC, was quite close to the book…

All the Magisterium guards have a doberman as their Daemon :rofl:

Many years ago we binged on a conspiracy/cop type show.
We moved, live changed (before coming here) & S3 got a bit convoluted.
Maybe a year ago I caught S4 ep1& it was all still a bit off track Mrs P_F lost interest.
Recently we’ve found a bunch of shows to binge together, but I was floundering for stuff when she was on early shifts.
Out of “nothing else” I went back to that show, after Netflix pointed our S8 is coming soon.
And yes it is my pre Masters binge, a guilty secret.
The Blacklist.
Still going, James Spader being superb. Candy floss for a locked down brain.

I just finished series 1 yesterday - I’m looking forward to series 2 more as one of my friends appears towards the end as Baruch

The audiobooks of all Pullman’s stuff are great.

The first three novels are done by an ensemble cast, and it works pretty well.

The last two books, from the second trilogy, were exclusively narrated by Michael Sheen, and they’re even better to listen to. The man is just excellent.

I watched Doolittle the other day, Sheen plays a part in that, he was channelling his inner Rik Mayal but was still brilliant.

The only actor I know that can carry off Brian Clough and an Angel with doubts about their faith…

He’s a proper leftie too. Uses his profile to campaign for the NHS, etc.

Funnily enough I didn’t get to watch it properly- have just spent an inoffensive couple of hours watching it in its entirety - Have spent worse time.

Netflix.
The Queens Gambit.
Very addictive. Very different.
Very good.

I need some of those green pills.

Queens Gambit was very good indeed.
I’ve watched Ratched too and it is beautifully done.
The Undoing is keeping everyone guessing. Still love old Hugh.
I’ve also binged the Hauntings of Bly Manor and Hill House.

We watched Small Axe - Lovers Rock last night. My manager’s daughter was involved in some of the filming. Not sure I could put into words my thoughts. So well acted, the cinematography and costumes (80s) were on point. The soundtrack is going to be popular. We will get to Mangrove when we have a spare 2 hours.
