Star Trek Lower Decks. First look.

Visually & with the music they have recreated the feel of the TOS era Cartoon series.
Set immediately after TNG movie Nemesis it follows minions/red shirts.
Canon wise it is anal in its attention to detail bringing back species from all eras. Kudos to that @pap may even be unoffended by it in the Kurzman era.
The issue is that it is produced by the bloke that did Rick & Morty.
So it really pushed the “humour” in Trek to Family Guy levels.
In Ep1 the cartoon characters could be accused of over acting some of the accents almost grate the nerves
Equally there were moments that did make me smile.
Compared to Ep1 of Space Force which actually made me laugh it all seemed a bit forced/strained/trying too hard.
But it wasn’t shit.
I will watch more.
No idea what streaming service it’s on in UK I have it on dodgy streams. DM me if you need a link.
(I may laugh more at the being sucked off joke after more Vodka) only non spoiler way I could quote anything.
An OK start.

Big couple of days in Geekdom.
First up, one week until Discovery S3 drops to continue to annoy @pap.

Trek Twitter broke last night with the news of THE RETURN of Captain Janeway.
She will appear in the “made for kids” Nickleodeon CG Cartoon Star Trek:Prodigy.
(Kids steal derelict Starship & go exploring.)

Lower Decks S1 finale and by all accounts caused damp patches in every Trek Nerds’ underwear.

I have a couple of episodes left & will give my “review” when they’ve been put on your local streaming site.

Janeway back. Cool.

I’ll watch it just to see how bad it is.

Looking forward to the reviews

Set plotlines to dumb.

Interesting interview less for geek stuff more on the impact of Covid on filming (anything) & difficulty/time post production takes

I hear all sorts of different, but then most of that is from bitter cunts on the Internet that can’t make the grade as screenwriters.

It’s not really up to him. It’s up to Netflix or whomever is going to be part funding it. It’s not making its money back for CBS all access.

Yes but.
Tech startups like All Access have a budget as investment- it’s a bigger game they need to get in so they need audience numbers as much as $ at this time.
A long way behind Netflix & a mere ant compared to the resources Amazon could pour in.
I give them 2 more years yet.
After that CBS may give up trying to build a streaming platform but then others may pick up the content.

The world of Entertainment providing is way bigger than a show right now. Trek is generating awareness even if some dont like it.

Star Trek Lower Decks:review

I start with my pet hate about it. Each episode could be 4 minutes longer so they could SLOW DOWN the dialogue. It is so fast and grating and not TNG Picard.

That said - the show.
Bumbling gang of idiots working in the Lower Decks building chemistry. :white_check_mark:
Idiots getting into trouble - amusing :white_check_mark:
Slow to engage because of Pet Hate :x:
Each episode has some Uber trekkie canon - woosh on me for most of it, but some moments really score Chief O’Brian day for one :white_check_mark:
A gradual theme emerges as the clusterfvck that is USS Cerritos :white_check_mark:

In the early episodes a smile was brought to my face.
In Ep 8 John Lancie cameos as Q which made me chuckle.
Episode 9 But that’s IMPOSSIBLE! It’s a Star Trek Movie we can do anything.
Kirk & Spock saved this planet - I like to think of those as the TOS days - Those Old Scientists.
I’m reminded of Captain Archer & The Enterprise- took a long time, getting from there to here…

Yes I was annoyed and had to push to watch it, but equally it was, overall, funny. It was done with love for TNG days & episodic stories.

Conclusion.
Watch it. Each episode is less than 30 minutes.
IF they slowed down & didn’t screech quite so much I’d have loved it.
I DID laugh during the last 2 episodes.
And it does mend a BIG TNG/Trek canon hole.
“Buy me a drink?”

Discovery S3 Ep1

No story spoilers.
Marvellous.
Filmed in Iceland and they make full value of it visually stunning.

And only a week until Ep2.
Will seem like years

Going to build up a roaring log fire and settle down with Mrs C_S and Young Adult#1 and a bucket load of wine and enjoy :+1:

Prepare to be disappointed…

F’cough

@Polski_Filip does tend to the hyperbolic…

I will wait for you 2 to watch it before I comment…

Make sure it’s a bucketload of wine and you drink it first.

You’ll need to be that pissed to enjoy it

Never a problem for @Polski_Filip, I might add *

* until the inevitable invasion of the Germans

I am strongly of the belief that in the prosecution of his international man of mystery duties, @Polski_Filip once fell Joker-style into a vat of ecstasy and has enjoyed every piece of scripted television since
