I think, overall, he’s doing a good job. We would all have taken being finalists at the start of the tournament. As long as he keeps learning and improving, I see no reason for him not to have the job long term.

I think the concept of “long contracts” has its own little worries. Saints have caused themselves problems by going for long extensions, I wouldn’t want either Southgate or the FA to regret having agreed to a long contract extension before they need to.
