Southampton vs Arsenal Match Thread - 10/5/17 K.O. 19:45

We’ve failed to score in 4 of our last 6 games - that’s appalling considering our form from this time last year. Admittedly we’ve lost Mane and Pelle but what is clear is that we need a huge overhaul of the squad, especially up front. I just worry that if a takeover isn’t on the horizon that Kat will be reticent to put any extra funds into the squad to bankroll that necessary spending.

Just got some information saying Silva will be in place for the 2017/18 season, and no I can’t fucking link it, not too sure as once again a gamble but gamble after this shite being shown to the fans.

That would be amazing. Get rid of Tadic, the useless fucker and bring in someone of David Silva’s quality. Not sure I’d believe it though - where did you get your information from?

Pure and utter brown.

Keep that post then, the person I heard it from is a father of a professional footballer, and no no fucking guessing games, its not Pele or Messi.

Racist.

Besides which, Silva is more tanned rather than a proper brownie.

I do hope it wasn’t from Jack Schitt, Barry.

The way this season has panned out that whole debacle is looking more and more like a cruel joke!

How’s Pelligrini getting on in Russia or wherever the fuck he went? Ha

sorry Steve meant to upvote that :lou_facepalm_2:

Talksport said Ranieri is waiting for the PremierLeague and we’re looking, Bert Van Marwijk for me though.

Ranieri has peaked mate. He’ll never repeat last years mega achievement

The noise coming out of Leicester is that the players mostly organised themselves during the title winning year. It was only after Ranieri started trying to tinker with their winning formula that things hit the skids.

I can’t understand why we leave Gabbiadini so isolated up front. When we signed him we were getting down the flanks regularly with the full backs causing all sorts of mayhem with quality crosses. Now they seem to be under instruction to get forward a lot less regularly and to keep it tight, which is fine if we don’t concede, but invariably we do, leaving us with little time to put it right.

Why are we playing 30 yards further back down the pitch than we were only three months ago? Why is poor old Gabbiadini left in possession without a teammate for 40 yards? It has to be tactics and Puel needs to change things.

Gabby looked like a little boy lost in the first half. Continually making runs off the shoulder of the last defender for a well weighted ball through the middle…which never came. This was obviously a well worked training routine except nobody else seemed to be in on it. Do we have nobody who can thread a though ball in the inside-forward channels…used to be the most common weapon in a mid-fielder armoury. Recently all we’ve had from mid-field is the safe ponderous working it down the flanks…far too predictible if you don’t mix-up the type of forward ball we play.

One dimentional yesterday and the Arse we’re there for the taking, all they had was a world-class finisher who inevitably scored…we were frantically chasing the game after that.

I know Gabby in general has a laissez-faire sort of footballing style, but yesterday he looked a bit like he’d given up to me. I’m usually pretty positive but I think there might be something wrong in the camp now, and that’s got to be down to the manager/coaches. I still think Eric Back was a weird choice - for me an assistant manager should be more pally and close to the players (e.g. Sammy and Erwin), and Black is a bit of a moody arrogant twat - can’t imagine him putting a consolling arm around anyone’s shoulder.

I’m close to giving up on Puel, purely because I’m worried about losing players - Gabby, VVD, Bertrand and Romeu mainly, all of whom are winners and want to play the ‘right’ sort of football.

And before you repeat your mantra, Bazza, no I don’t think Puel is ‘out of his depth’.

Disappointing end to the season and a very inconsistent season, but if this is a bad season I’ll take it after many years of fighting relegation. We have come a long way in a short time. We are due a flat season. To read TSW you’d think we were Sunderland or Middlesbrough. Mind you it was the same under Poch and Koeman. We are the mighty Southampton. We are not allowed tp lose or draw or play poorly. This is my 51st season and believe me, there have been many worse. A team of our size cant lose its best defender without a hit. Despite the stick he used to get, Pelle too has been a big loss. Lets not forget also that our top scorer has been out for months. I am not making excuses, but we do need to get some perspective. We are not one of the big hitters. We aim to be the best of the rest. So does everyone else who isnt in the top four/six. Without spending a lot more on wages and players it is always going to be a big ask. We have done brilliantly over the last few seasons but it was never going to last. Things could be much worse…we could be Birmingham City!

Do you like him tho? Puel I mean. I suspect we might be more impressive team next yr, particular if we make the Right Moves in the Transfer Market, but even if we win league, Puel will still be an undersized ferengi looking motherfker with a mumble-mumble voice.

I like Puel on the sidelines - he seems passionate and sexy a lot of the time. I do not enjoy his pre and post match gibberish.
