But no one is held to account and so it’ll never change.
Ref’s need not Dermott Gallagher to speak to after controversial decisions
Just watching the handballs. On TV they’re all saying it’s ridiculous, which it is. That totally changed the game and we were robbed. When your luck’s out, it’s really out.
Nuno just bottled it and said he was going with the ref over the handball. Spineless git.
Neither were pens but if they give theirs they have to give ours.
Oh, come on, what else would you expect him to say? I don’t blame him at all.
Neto’s goal was good, but he should never score from there
I thought Vestergaard should have shown him inside.
He had KWP there.
Instead he gave him the outside option.
Only one winner there.
Perhaps KWP didn’t communicate.
Either way, a bad goal to concede.
Bad decision aside, the fucking wheels fell off.
Feel gutted for Ralph. He looked totally crestfallen. We did fall away second half though and he needs to address the problem we have with two halves of football.
I’ve never seen him so angry, and rightly so.
The whole use of VAR is an utter clusterfuck. The only reason we had the two decisions had to be VAR considering whether the ref had made a clear and obvious error, and there was a clear refusal to consider the evidence and overturn. If he’d not given the first and had given the second, my guess is both those decisions would have stood. VAR refs thinking they’re doing the ref a favour (to be returned) in patting them on the back for a correct decision.
But it’s doubtful Scott had a proper view of either incident. His decisions were subjective guesses on the basis of one angle, which wasn’t necessarily a clear view anyway. But once he’s guessed, the VAR ref is using that as the basis for their decision. Totally wrong. Until we change the mindset of refs to get rid of their “I know best” stance and adopt the Rugby principles that the ref honestly tells the video ref he doesn’t know and asks if there is evidence to give anything.
He could have been honest and said it was harsh. He wouldn’t have been so non committal if he had been given against him which it could be next week. Managers need to stand together and call poor decisions or criticise bad rules when they occur. Some do.
Usually you show people outside and give them less to aim at. It is harder to score from the angle he gave himself but it was a quality finish.
Someone just made a comment on the BBC, “Southampton have put their head above the parapet to stand up against awful refereeing and VAR. Now that’s coming back to bite them. They are going to have to concentrate on winning games with 25 yard scorchers”.
I really do think there is something in this. Our public request for Mike Dean and Lee Mason not to officiate in any of our games wouldn’t have gone down well, you can just imagine the ref’s ‘clubs’ reaction to this. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the word has gone out, put these impertinent upstarts back in their box, give them fuck all.
It felt like that today. Something is seriously wrong with the game when refs are controlling the outcome of games.
Sky quashed that report about asking those officials not to be involved with our games.
Well there must have been some back tracking going on because it was pretty much universally reported across all media that they did. They must have got it from somewhere, surely they didn’t all make it up.
This was Sky’s opinion and I have to agree:
Looking back at replays on the potential Dendoncker handball, that looks like more of a penalty than the one awarded against Bertrand. Neither are in my view but the ball has travelled a lot further and the Belgian ducks, shuts his eyes and has his arm out. Very odd.
I suppose there is a difference between making a formal complaint and generally enquiring as to the possibility of something. These days though something being widely reported doesn’t mean much, seeing as most footy gossip is just copy and paste from the last guy.
