I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my neighbour Nico for attending Saturday’s game and extending his record of 4 home games attended this season…12 points attained.
I have let him know that should he take another contract in China I will break both his legs.
Have to agree with most of the Goat’s observations above. I was expecting a much tougher game than that; scoring so early made a big difference as it forced West Brom out of their initial bus-parking game plan. But, even when they did make efforts to move the ball about and get it forward, they never looked very threatening.
On MotD Pulis was complaining about the non-award of a penalty when it was still 1-0. Seeing the replay, I’d say it should have been given as a free kick just outside the box. JWP caught their player a glancing blow high up on the leg (maybe even in the abdomen) as he tried to clear the ball. The West Brom player’s response was to flip his feet up behind him as if he’d been tripped and dive into the area in search of a penalty. I reckon the ref waved play on based on that reaction as much as anything.
Excellent day all told. Bright and sunny day, Austin signed, South Africa taken to the cleaners, ditto West Brom. Great get-together pre-match at the Stable, post-match at the Platform, then on for a meal at the White Star Tavern. A brilliant early birthday!
Happy Birthday Fowllyd! Good to see you and the gang yesterday. Totally agree on the non-award of a penalty for WBA, the player threw himself down with the Ref looking straight at him. This ruled out any chance of a penalty or a freekick.
They’re always shaking hands, slapping hand, bumping fists, hugging or greeting each other in some manner, aren’t they? Seems odd. I don’t do that at work.
