I do feel really sorry for Jay Rod. Today he tried really hard to do the right thing…make himself available…start a run into space…close down (particularly in 2nd half) but it’s not only down to his lack of confidence or fitness but the lack of confidence other members of the team seem to have in him.
He was making runs into space up front but he just wouldn’t get the pass when he wanted it. OK it’s the job of the forward to find space and time runs to give the supplier options, often fruitless but maybe drawing a defender away from a team mate but making fruitless runs has made Jay Rod’s restricted game-time even more frought.
He will be well aware of the oft heard “he’ll never be the player he was before the injury” How the fuck do they know…is it the injury, lack of game-time, lack of confidence. Maybe it’s all of them but just at the moment a lot of it is bad luck…that golden opportunity in the second half was nothing more than bad luck.
He needs a goal, any goal, mishit, rebound off his backside, anything. Get a couple under his belt will put another yard on his pace. Nothing breeds success, like success.
Romeu gave the ball away umpteen times and was blowing out of his arse in under an hour. Not surprising as he must need a rest.
Fonte moved the ball too slowly, dithered and went backwards a lot. Mind you he did have Martina outside him so I suppose it’s understandable. JayRod won a fair few high balls. It was his shooting from 18 inches that was fucking woeful.
I am claiming credit for this win. The reason boro were shite is that they didn’t warm up properly. The reason they didn’t warm up properly is because their coach was hanging out his arse. The reason he was hanging out his arse was because he was drinking with me at 2.30am this morning.
Weird old trip. I think most Saints fans would have preferred staying in Europe versus a win against Boro, but it was not to be. As was remarked on the post-mortem for that, we simply didn’t do enough (anything) away from home. We are where we are.
Can’t be too disappointed. While we should rightly fear Liverpool, they are beatable. They are not great at the back. There are 88 other teams that would quite fancy being where we are right now.
And I know that “concentrate on the league” is normally the mocking insult of other teams’ fans, but on this occasion, what a time to start making progress. The three berths above us are eminently reachable. A little bit of time on the road may suit the team, and we’ve every chance of making our late home fixtures count. Spurs have got a bunch of comfy players on big new contracts. Their present hiccups could be full on slump by end of the month.
Very tight. Loads still to play for. We’ve a genuine cup run on our hands, a league that looks climbable and circumstances which may dictate Puel finally settling on a best XI.
I dunno man, it’s pleasing to win a game, but I feel really disappointed and disillusioned. It’s shocking to find out that Barry knows so little about football. I dunno how I’m going to look him in the eye in the future RIP
