:pl: :saintsfc: Southampton v Brighton :brightonfc: (Live on :bbc: TV and website)

Yep, and we were giving it away far too much today for all that tippa-tappa around our box. I think Brighton should have probably scored a couple more to be honest.

Yes, it boggles the mind. He either does that or stops mid run, waits for their whole team to get back and form a solid defensive unit and them resumes the attack. Its a competition, do they know that sportsmanship only has to go so far?!

Having a shot at the oppositions goal would be helpful every now and then.

We seem to want to set up some perfect goal. FFS, banjo it in off your rear

Ralph momentarily transformed him from the player he was under Puel and Pellegrino but he is reverting. I’m sure confidence plays a big part but is he ever going to build his confidence by contributing fuck all? And he’ll continue to contribute fuck all until he actually tries to do something.

I want this season over now. We need to regroup and do some actual tactical training.

How has this become our season since being top and even then 6th in January.

I’m too pissed off to post anything objective. See you for the golf.

I’m so annoyed I’m going for a run.

I hate running.

I’m cracking open the wine - we have plenty this week.

Especially when we had such a reputation for our pace on the attack earlier in the season. Even the so called top sides were put on the back foot when we were running at them, and was the main reason we went top. Now we’ve gone backwards, pedestrian and creating nothing, and heading for the dreaded trapdoor. Baffling.

Exactly. That’s what I really don’t get. It’s not as if there has been a seismic shift in footballing tactics over the course of the season. Just teams being a bit more of a ā€œblockā€ in the box, but even that didn’t seem to bother us too much earlier in the season as we’d just run at that too and cause panic. Maybe we are just knackered and the legs have gone so we can’t keep it up anymore.

I’ve been thinking about this recently and I don’t recall many goals we’ve scored from the high press or forced errors.

I love Ralph … him crying is my screensaver … but I’m beginning to think he is actually the problem. How can a group of players go from topping the league and getting all the plaudits to relegation form in a matter of months ? That buck stops with the manager. I don’t subscribe to the bollocks about injuries, all clubs have had injuries and difficult times. Managers adapt, change, use what they’ve got. Sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes you get a bonus. Look at the 2 halves today … played them off the park in the first half. Play was generally positive, moving forward, probing. We go in 1 all, happy days. They make the switch and we just do what we’ve done for the last 45 minutes. Guess what, they’ve sussed us out. As Goat says, it’s the manager’s job to fix the issue. Fucking fix it Ralph. Onwards we plodded, went another goal down, heads drop, games gone, fucking shite. As I said, I love Ralph and would probably have his babies for him but I’ve had enough. I don’t want him sacked, I want him to stop all the bollocks about ā€œit’s not losing, it’s learningā€ and say ā€œI fucked up today ladsā€. I now want the end of the season to come and focus on next season. I hope that we stay up but even that seems a fucking miracle now (how the fuck we go from 1st to last in form is beyond me). Life of a Saints fan eh ?

I was alright afterwards, it’s now that it’s had time to sink in that it sucks …

It’s probable I am mis-remembering, I just seem to remember us putting pressure on through that system and teams making mistakes as a result. At that point we had a few players that knew where the ball needed to end up too, so that helped a bit!!

Right, I’m proper on a rant, now. This is the ā€œManager saysā€ from the BBC.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to BBC Sport:

"In the second half the opponent wanted it more and we have to be self-critical about it because it was by far one of the worst games we have played this season.

"It is time to work on a few basic fundamentals in the next weeks. The second goal gave them a lift. Afterwards, we did not have a solution, only one chance at the end.

"We see that our game is far away from what is has been this season. I can remember we were one of the best home teams at the beginning of the season. What has happened in the second half, we have to ask the question ourselves.

ā€œWe are not hungry enough and the basics are missing at the moment which makes it very difficult to win games.ā€

I actually want him to say that ā€œI did not have a solutionā€, not ā€œweā€. If you reread this by subbing ā€œweā€ for me, mine, I, I’ve etc. it highlights what I’ve been saying. When the stadium was first empty of fans, all you could hear was Ralph shouting instructions. Don’t hear him as much now … has he had enough too ? Maybe he reads this forum and thinks he’s safer in the majority. Last post today, promise. Off to kick next doors cat.
