What a fantastic old building this was!

Since moving up north I have noticed the difference, with this thread in mind, that up north they keep a lot of their old buildings and streets. Loads of cobbled streets, in a City with so much character on the back drop of the lakes and the hills in the outskirts. Love it up here.

I look at a lot of the buildings and think, down south, they would have knocked this down and build apartments or offices by now!

Apparently, the internal postman used to deliver letters etc to the various wards by riding his bicycle up the quarter of a mile long corridor. Trouble was, the building was badly designed and never really functioned well as a hospital. Agree with you, though, Sfcsim, it’s a shame people couldn’t have kept it intact by turning it into apartments or something.

Things never change…

Once it became a bar, I used to drink in there pre match pretty much every week for a couple of seasons. Also managed to get punched in the face there, on a non match evening, by one of the McCarthy brothers of local boxing semi-fame.

Why not check out some of the old bits of Southampton?
