Come on @mrtrampoline the fact the homosexuality is not illegal in Russia has nothing to do with @krg_ 's argument, in fact I don’t think he ever stated it was illegal in Russia. For a smart man you can be incredibly dumb at times.
Let’s take your homoerotic example of making out with @krg_ in Red Square! Would you survive to making it to Riyadh? I doubt it very much, you’d probably make it out of Red Square, just, but beware the next dark alley you wonder down!
Would you both be able to get a hotel room in Moscow? Pobably but once they found out you were, shock horror, sleeping in the same bed I bet you’d get beaten up or turfed out, probably both!
No-one went “hold on a minute” because everyone, apart from yourself, is aware that Russia is very intolerent when it comes to the LGBT community.
I suppose that the Transgender person that got filmed being dumped in a wheelbarrow and trundled down an alley to be beaten to death is fine because being gay in Brazil is not illegal!!
Here’s a thought. Instead of “Social Intergration Isnt Working” perhaps we should have Tribalism Isnt Working?
For those who think that they are somehow, better, more worthy or more deserving than others because…
of their religion, their lack of religion, the colour of their skin, their culture, where they were born, where they live, their political persuasion, their language, their income, what they chose to wear, how they chose their marriage partners, their choice of music, their choice of art, their choice of literature etc etc etc… some news, you are not better, you are just different.
The thing about this difference is that even within our own tribes, we are still all different. So why then should some people get so wound up when other people from all over the world live their lives in different ways? As long as no one does you any harm and lives within the laws of the land, why should you bother about which Gods they pray too or what they wear on their heads? Tribalism/nationalism is the greater probelm here, not integration. This whole thing about western “civilisation” being better really is a load of crap. It is not better. It is just different.
Funny you should mention tribes when many places on the planet still work with those parameters, are they right or wrong? Or does this system change to the Country they’re in? If so you’re contradicting yourself, can you understand and comprehend what I’ve just written?
If the promotion of gay rights and prevention of persecution of homosexuals is a concern, and you were prioritising them in order of need, as you might do in an A&E department, would you really start with Russia? Widen that a bit to other subjects. Are they the most worrying threat with regards to nuclear arms? Chemical weapons? The threat of a new world war?
There is doubtless plenty of homosexual persecution going on in Russia, just as there is in many parts of the world. The hypocrisy on the issue is pretty astounding.
US media has been running stories about this epidemic of homophobia in Russia, but haven’t been quite as concerned with much greater abuses elsewhere. The same goes for war. Russia is presently under Western sanction for its “invasion” or “occupation” of Crimea, a region that was culturally Russian, historically within its borders, gifted to Ukraine during the Soviet Union with an expectation that the Soviet Union would be around a bit longer than it was.
Contrast that with the actions of Western governments. Invading countries nowhere near them for imperialist ends. Spending our tax money to drop ordnance on innocent civilians, allowing private corporations and military security firms to hoover up huge profits, and putting most of a region on a permanent war footing.
If the hypothetical Man from Mars were to produce a compilation of the world’s top post-perestroika villains by country, by category - using what we say are traditional and righteous Western values as a guide. Russia might be in the top ten in many categories, even the top five in others. Is it the top one in anything?
Nope. For that, we need to look to our friends and allies. As I said, the hypocrisy is astounding.
So Barry, have you been watching Extemely British Muslims? Last night’s programme was particularly interesting. As someone who seems to have issues with Muslims and believes that integration isnt working it is something you should watch. Strangely enough the people that they interview come across as completely normal, sympathtic individuals.
I have been invited to a mate’s party the night before I’m having mine. He is from the Phillipines and is apparently a shit-hot cook. We were out in Manchester for beers six weeks ago and all.
The best jape of today involved a colleague that told me she was going back to Poland to celebrate her birthday. I said that I was too old and wise to enquire after a lady’s age, but she’s actually quite enthusiastic about hearing my opinion of how old she is.
Death lies this way, gentlemen. Going low is no guarantee of survival. Going high is a near certain guarantee of death. Through cunning deflection, I managed to escape the encounter without having to expose myself to this mortal risk.
Two hours later, I walk past her and say “one hundred and thirty seven”. She howled with shock and laughter, and was impressed enough to tell her mate about it.
Just thought I’d share a couple of other examples of social integration not happening.
Yes its truly working…These examples are proof that all who come here want to engage and assimilate into British society, Pap we can all do that and I have many friends from overseas.
At my wedding there were loads of Irish (two of my ushers were Irish and flew over), French (family and inlaws family) and Estonian, Spanish Pakistani, Nigerian, Turkish, we can all do that but it doesn’t change the facts there are issues and culture and religion are the causes of the issues we’re in.
I think we should only allow gays, children, atheists and open minded people in.
