Maybe propaganda is not the exact word, more like “slant” or maybe “spin”, maybe sometimes context can be forgotten.

I’ve often felt that UK News especially tends to “enjoy” feeding bad news to the population and making everyone feel miserable, rather than good news. (Note yes bad news sells papers, yes enough books and movies on the subject, yes not only in the UK.) I blame Ron Burgundy and GNN and Car Chases if I’m honest.

Yeah agree we need to see the stories - that’s how things can get changed, (eg Live Aid) perhaps I became too cynical caused by reading papers without what I had been used to - ie no “left or righth” Editorial or Agenda

It was most noticable when I had a visitor over from the US for work and he read the local press about issues in Palestine and he was genuinely shocked that it had not been reported back home,

A local example - we had something similar here back in the days of the building boom about the Labour Camps and the like, they were true BUT the Journos never went another 150 metres to see that many living in the containers were actually working to build the accomodation blocks for themselves ie the labourers (and not many have been back to follow up either).

I suppose with the Cologne attacks, the outrage is against 1,000 or so attackers and the Authorities for their response (or lack of) yet the story is also the other 1 million or so refugees who have NOT carried out such attacks.

What is their life? Are the root causes of the attacks based on some issues around frustration at their treatment or conditions? I’ve watched a lot of Sky News this week but it has tended to be TV shots of protest & counter protest, where in Cologne were these attackers based? Is there a ghetto area fermenting discontent in a similar way we discovered in Brussels after the Paris attacks?

The Press show stories and Barry rants. That why they co-exist so happily and it is the reaction they want. Is it the truth? most times yes, is it the whole truth? Sometimes. Is it in context - not that often.

And yes, DS is a legend, (I mean the daft bugger ENJOYS listening to me at Karaoke ffs) and yes IF we get back to the UK in the football season I’ll get him along for pre-match drinks

Also Phil we just seem to take our news from headlines now. The perceived wisdom is that 1000 migrants went on a sexual rampage but when you read the reports there was a crowd of about 1000 of whom around 30 or so carried out the attacks. I am not trying to minismise the scale of what happened but there is a big difference in the figures.

I think it was a 1000 people who broke off into groups of 30 or and attacked people, it wasn’t 30 people it was groups of 30, taharrush gamea could be the thing practiced here.

Bloke on Radio was saying that Immigration is cool & it’s pretty sweet that ppl all want to come to Our Country, but the Problem is it’s like 80% bros, and what they should do is run border control on i.e. night club rules, so we’d be like, “Just you lads is it? Well, the German Authorities have now received over 500 criminal complaints from people in Cologne in relation to the New Years Eve incident, so it would be suprising if it was limited to 30 perps. I’m sure we’ll know more in the fullness of time, but would expect more than 30 were involved.

And there lies the issue and problem of full open borders, the Germans and Swedish knew this would bring far more men than women and they have huge labour shortages of manual labour (Germany 600,00 approx) so it wasn’t Merkel’s kind heart but Merkel’s pragmatic brain that did this.

Yeah true dat, Yemen War, It gets occassional mention over when the boys who have been trained how to target their attacks by MoD people over there drop their bombs on a Hospital or a school…

We get no news per se on it either, occassional snippets regarding towns being recaptured, we do however get news and Human Interest stories as the Casualties are reported and the Nation mourns their passing.

So, IF Syria is such a basket case across the entire Nation, how come Video gets out? Not just Madaya but also some of the Is strongholds. Can’t imagine Carrier Pigeons running Micro SD cards around the country.

It wasn’t Journos getting in to report on Madaya, it was Video that came out. How? The City was under siege. Or was it because the actual Mobile netowrk is still operating in broad swathes of the Nation?

No news from Yemen, well that’s as likely to be the utter lack of a telecoms infrastructure - ie somebody would actually have to GO THERE and take pictures instead of surfing the web… (And to be fair the place is so messed up not even the Arabic Press would send one of their staff into harms way like that)

But of course, being a Cynic one could say that you do NOT get any news because “The West” is on the side of the Saudi led coaltion, which is as far as I can go on that line of thought, and because obviously in Syria the UK et al managed to find themselves in a situation where we aren’t actually on any “side” other than possibly regime change or that of the Red Cross/Red Crescent

And yes, Soggy, that Headline comment came up early this week. Sky News boldly announced that Donald Dick, oh sorry Trump “Had Praised Kim Jong Un of North Korea”

That instantly had us going wtf is that moron on about now? It was only about 30 minutes later that Sky showed the FULL report and Tramps speech. In fact what he was saying is that here was a Kid who had taken control of a Country, of a massive Communist Organisation and purged it of any critics and so we should RESPECT what he had achieved and use it to understand that he was incredibly fucking dangerous and not some cartoon character - ie the West HAS to take him seriously. Which tbh is a pretty important point. But then Trunk is a joke figure, UK media don’t like or understand him so the “spin” went into action.

Completey agree, people are lazy when it comes to opinion and truth, most probably dont even know about the wall they’ve built in the South of Saudi, its just Bazza ranting, in my humble this is round one for Iran v Saudi, a proxy/cold war for starters and the big one is where will the West/China and the rest hang their hats, too long they have been on both hat stands and thats certainly hasn’t worked.

The hypocrisy of the Saudis towards the wall as well is amazing seeing as they go on about Israel as every opportunity (not that I believe in the West Bank wall either in many respects).

Although tbf the Saudi wall is on an Internationally recognised Border and still has Border/Customs points on the roads, just aimed at stopping the loonies crossing and killing locals which is what happened before the whole “Civil War” thing

But a good point. We’ve seen some changes here as well where some small enclaves of Oman exist that cut across main roads, not a wall (yet) but certainly increased security & travel restrictions, but again that has come about due to arrests & incidents here where (primarily) offshoots of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood have found converts.

Anyway you lot have a moat so don’t go getting all high & mighty :lou_eyes_to_sky:

I’m doing what amounts to posh inter-railing from London to Athens in a couple of months, Bazza. If I get bummed to death in Cologne (first port of call) then I’ll concede this argument to you…

If not, you have to admit that Europe is not being over run by dark skinned kalashnikov toting sexual predators. Sounds reasonable, right?

A 13-year-old Russian-German girl has admitted making up a story about being kidnapped and raped by migrants in a case that triggered a furore in Germany and briefly embroiled Berlin police in a spat with the Kremlin, state prosecutors said.

The parents of the teenager, named only as Lisa, reported her missing on 11 January after she failed to appear at school in the Marzahn district of the capital. She reappeared 30 hours later with injuries on her face, and told her parents she had been attacked by men of Middle Eastern or north African appearance. News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin’s Russian-German community.

But when she was questioned by trained specialists three days later “she immediately admitted that the story of the rape was not true”, said the spokesman for the state prosecutor, Martin Steltner.

He said the teenager had been scared of going home after the school had contacted her parents over an incident at school.

She is 13 years old and clearly troubled. Let her get the support she needs and hopefully she will learn her mistakes. It is not acceptable to make such allegations but sometimes we need to work out what went wrong and not criminalise kids.
