Nor the defence, goalkeeper or midfield.
We’re an average to good side from the midfield up but championship in defence.

Sterling dives in the box, told to get up by Dean.

Don’t tell him to get up, you cunt, fucking book him for diving. :rage::rage::rage::rage:

2 mins extra time. Betcha it would have been 10 if Saints were winning.

3 goals, 10 subs, GK booked for timewasting but only 2 minutes added on? Not that it would have made any difference but still.

Scoreline flatters City.
3 silly errors from our centre backs and a few good chances missed.
Much better performance than the last few games.

I think 4-1 flattered City on the run of play. The pen was the killer, Salisu must have had a brain fart.

Another one, yes

Not really been following the game - just the occasional peek at what you experts are saying!
Not terribly disappointed, just glad we seemed to put in a bit of an effort.
After two good performances to get points when they were needed was good, but the odds were probably against us this time out, and I felt this game was a bit like going to the dentist - you have to, but you’re glad when it’s over!

Top effort but stupid mistakes for their first 2 goals and a hatful of wasted chances.

As @Goatboy said our season is over so here is my summary of 2021/22.

Fraser Forster is not a bad GK and I’m glad he has come back from the abyss. Maybe go for Henderson or Johnstone in the summer?

Fullbacks excellent, our best performers this season.

Centre backs are either rock solid or making simple errors that lead to goals. Can we buy anyone better in our price range? I doubt it.

Romeu solid but getting older. JWP another good season, Elyounoussi resurgent and a very pleasant surprise. Stuart Armstrong we missed for big part of the season. Djenepo I don’t think we need, he hasn’t pushed on. Not sure Smallbone is up to PL standard.

Adam Armstrong isn’t good enough, hasn’t made the step up and has no composure in front of goal. Che has had a decent season but will rarely bother double figures. Broja is the real deal and still raw, I doubt he will be with us next season.

Season rating 5/10. Staying up, no chance of getting any higher in the league and a half decent cup run. I think we will finish 14th.

It pains me to agree. I’ve been solidly in the ā€œhe just needs timeā€ camp, but he’s shown so little this season that you’ve got to wonder if he’ll be either moved on in the summer or loaned out to a Championship club.

Most of this I’d pretty much agree with, certainly in terms of player assessments, but I’d be inclined to give Adam Armstrong more time. It’s a pretty hefty step up from the Championship to the PL, and it’s rare for a player to make that step easily. ChĆ© took some time to get there, and it may well be that the same goes for AA.

Agree. I think it’s more likely that Long will be moved on.

Hmm, leaving us only Armstrong & Che?

Not sure that will happen tbh.

Armstrong has everything in his locker except goals/composure. That comes with time & confidence

I hope you’re right, he was batting them in for fun for blackburn and the championship is a tough league. Maybe it is a confidence thing, maybe he is being overcoached, I thought it might be our style of play but he is getting plenty of chances. Time will tell.

ChĆ© was doing the same for Birmingham before he joined us. AA does a lot of stuff right - movement, touch, control, passing too - but at the moment it’s finishing that’s letting him down. Didn’t he score a beauty really early in the season, or did I dream that? Certainly his goal against Villa was a cracker - that was a snapshot where he didn’t have time to think about what he was going to do, so that suggests to me that confidence is very likely to be a major factor.

We will be buying or loaning another striker I reckon.
