:pl: :saints: Saints v Leicester City :leicesterfc: - Live on :sky_logo:

You can have my seat for a reasonable sum. I did not go today, having been to most of the crap previously, so clearly I need to keep away

I think it’s 3 from 4. Maybe 5 if Forest go on a bad run. But I think Leicester and West Ham will have enough to stay out of trouble quite comfortably.

Is there a pill I can take so that I think playing Adam Armstrong (at all! ) is a good thing.
A drug is necessary - drinking alcohol doesn’t do it - it just makes me belligerent when he is in the match day squad, and worse if he plays!

He has Dravet’s Syndrome. Very serious epilepsy for which I fundraise and to which so many of you have generously donated. He can go weeks without a seizure or can have one every day. He was already in hospital after one of his worst which needed sedation and incubation to get him out of it. We as grandparents are helping out and I’d just got to the ward to pick him up when he had another seizure. Bad, but not as bad as the previous one. Staff were brilliant.

He’s out of the seizure but will need to stay in hospital. The rescue meds he needs are very powerful and will knock him out for 18 hours. Didn’t see a minutes of the game but the result has picked me up.

Good defensive substitution tbh.
He & Mara did a lot off the ball to hurry their defence into playing long.
Sure they created little & Arma missed a sitter.
But understood the move

Whatever happened to the old adage about attack being the best form of defence?

Mara actually did alright. But bringing on Elyounoussi and Armstrong just signals to everyone, including the opposition, that we are not going to attempt scoring another. Which just gives them the impetus and brings them on to us. They both work hard but that should be a bare minimum for a professional athlete being paid millions. Clearly that is not always the case though, otherwise we would see players who have objectively more quality rather than them.

On another day Leicester would have scored 2 or 3 of those very presentable chances. So whilst it was a most welcome 3 points, I’m not getting carried away. We’ve had plenty of false dawns to think any different.

At least it wasn’t that result : 25/10/19

I was looking forward to chatting.

Sorry Kenny :pensive:

In shock news, for the last 5 minutes, most of the Chapel were on their feet screaming/clapping/cheering.

Often one team plays decently for much of the season but then gets dragged into relegation from mid table.

Leicester had lots of chances but didn’t score. Better teams will have scored more against them: defensively they were disorganised for a chunk of tonight. They have now lost 4 games on the trot. Here’s hoping.

Feels a bit strange having missed the whole game and just going on others’ reactions. A few thoughts.

I think Bazunu has generally been good but some now seem.very critical. I still think he’s the best option.

For all Bednarek’s errors, the more he plays, the less he’s a liability. Probably have Salisu back when he’s fit or DCC when he’s been calmed down a bit. Forget Lyanco and Bree. But we now have options that aren’t too bad. Same at FB. I prefer KWP and Perrauld as KWP is on his natural side, but I don’t deny AMN has done well. So an option there too. Overall it’s nearly a settled defence that has only conceded one in three games.

The midfield of Alcaraz, JWP and Lavia can be good. With the three, one can always get forward.

It’s up front where we still have too many options, mainly poor. Walcott was surprisingly good yesterday: perhaps he can thrive in an elder statesman, responsible role. Sulamana (sp?) is exciting as is Edozie, but neither is mature enough to give a complete display. Orsic and Aribo look out of it now. SA has lost something. Is he fit? AA works hard defensively but isn’t skilled in creativity or finishing. Moi is similar but a little more composed. I like Che: he assisted the goal. Mara isn’t ready and I really can’t decide about Tall Paul. With no look in yesterday, is he doomed to be the next failure, or will there be games where he’ll come into his own? So I’m not sure we can do better than the starting front three yesterday but maybe there’s a winning formula somewhere.

Also one last reflection. We’ve won 2/3 of our league games since Ruben took over. If he’d been appointed earlier instead Jones and had that success rate, we’d now have 13 more points. Mid table and virtually safe.

We also might have spent a lot less, or more wisely, during January. We’re stuck with at least two Jones players

I don’t blame Jones for that. I blame the idiots who appointed him.

The trouble is, that puts an enormous gloss on what actually happened. We rode our luck like never before against Chelsea and Leicester, on another day either of those games could have ended in very heavy defeats. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the points and a clean sheet’s a clean sheet, but saying our defence has only conceded once in three games doesnt even start to tell the story.

As I observed up the thread. If Iheanacho hadn’t had his worst day up front they would have won by 3 or more

But the real positive to take from that, as well as the three points, is that Leicester could not score against the worst team in the league even when presented with several gift-wrapped chances. They will not get it that easy again and will struggle.

We still look very suspect from crosses, free kicks and corners. So many free headers were given away and Bazunu comes and flaps at things. He completely missed the one right at the death but ironically probably did enough to distract the bloke who headed it on to the bar.

If I were Leicester I would console myself that they created plenty of chances and on another day would surely of scored at least one. Whilst they look to be on a downward trajectory I still think they will be fine this year.

Attacking wise, we had 5 attempts on target but I assume that includes the missed penalty. One was a very speculative free kick from JWP from a wide angle but it was comfortably saved. Then there was the goal, but I genuinely can’t recall the other 2.

I’m sorry to piss on anyone’s bonfire but I think it’s important not to think we’ve addressed all of our shortcomings, found a balanced side and that we are now capable of going on a run. We’ve been here before where we’ve got a good result but then failed to build on it. The same can be said of promising individual performances. They have been quickly followed up with absolute garbage. Alcaraz, AMN are prime examples.

Another apology, because I’m going to talk about Adam Armstrong and Elyounoussi again. Both work hard and their effort cannot be faulted. But…when they are on the pitch we do not look like scoring a goal. Which is ridiculous when you consider they are fundamentally supposed to be attacking players.

The former’s touch and shooting is horrific. I don’t think he even aims his shots any more, just tries to kick the leather off the ball. The latter, rarely completes a forward pass and consistently slows down counter attacks. Last night he was supposed to be doing a job on Maddison but was giving him too much space when he needed to be touch tight. He wasn’t and this allowed him to get crosses in to the box which is one of our biggest Achilles heels. None of this is new but alas, their work rate keeps getting them picked. I don’t like the fact that they get booed by some fans but at the same time I really don’t like watching them try and play football.
