I’m Dave. She went home with me.
Nice reading this thread after going to the game. I’ll comment tomorrow as I is k-nackered.
Loved this bit.
It was a proud night for Sotonians across the world. The magnitude of this win is behind the 1976 FA Cup final victory, to date their only major trophy, but apart from that, few victories match this in terms of stature. This famous win didn’t only yield memorable moments. It allowed Saints’ fans to continue to dream of heading to Stockholm, Sweden, on May 24, 2017.
We’re famous. Maybe
I take all credit for the Saints comeback arrived back from Malaysia and managed to get the stream working in the 63rd minute to see VVD get the equalizer.
In other news as I had been away for three weeks the Mrs was giving me a blow job as the final whiste went
I’ve been back for a bit. My grandad was in my mum’s house when I got back, so I jipped you buggers so I could have a chat with him ahead of my return to Liverpool tomorrow.
It was not, in all honesty, the best of games. Saints scored one goal in a 2-1 win. We were utterly gamed into missing that penalty by Inter’s players and fans alike. Itchen North man that I proudly am, I reckon that Tadic would have probably put that away if he was facing the Chapel. Possibly not, given the level of gamesmanship directed at the ref. He utterly lost authority at that point.
Saints don’t play in Europe often. Tonight’s the furthest that Saints have ever got; we don’t know this shit. Perhaps that’s the reason that emotionally, this felt more like an England game where we were slowly gamed by cynical opponents.
Inter were dirty bastards last night and the ref just wasn’t prepared for it. In the first half, little seemed to go our way. The stats won’t report the number of times our players were clattered which weren’t noticed by the ref. Inter reminded me of those older international teams that used to take the piss and utterly get away with it. Midtjylland’s calculated and dull game seems almost benign in comparison.
Undone by a moment of quality in the last game, we looked in danger of suffering the same fate in this tie. Their goalie was pulling off great saves, we’d missed a penalty. It looked like one of those games, and that the magnificent flag waving spectacle we witnessed pre-match was simply the act of bedazzled locals, not really knowing what was happening, or why they were there,
Second half changed all that, particularly as Austin replaced Rodriguez. Jay Rod is in a tough spot. A rare Adkins-era buy, he did well in his early Saints career. Not gone so well for him thereafter. Injured then, given tremendous support from the club, and out of form now.Don’t want to shit on the bloke; hope he finds form. He’ll get extra opportunities to reintegrate into the first team; we’ve got enough fixtures. If he can’t, people are going to make ruthless decisions. We’re not Adkins-era anymore, and we can’t rely on own goals being winning goals in future fixtures, even if we do generate the conditions for them,
The comeback wasn’t as intense as the 3-2 against Liverpool, but everyone knew what it meant. Goatboy’s pub conversation was somewhat limited post-game, constrained as it was with proclamations of “pap, we beat Inter”.
Those pre-match flags turned out to be something else than yokel hokel. They heralded what was to be Saints’ greatest ever night in European competition.
So far.
I missed the whole thing, t’interweb broke down.
Provider? Virgin - Fucking cunts.
Great result tho’
Didn’t Mrs P_S mind you watching the match while she was dispensing oral pleasure?
Hope you were drinking a beer to make it the unholy trinity
There was a Vodka and coke close by and she would much rather give me a bJ than watch football so a winner in all directions
Ah Cob … was wondering where you were mate. Great result but Virgin might just have done you a favour … you didn’t have to watch Tadics penalty.
It was nervy viewing and whether it was an enjoyable 90 mins is debatable … all worth while for the rush when the final whistle blew.
At least she didn’t talk all the way through the game
Having now seen the highlights support everything I thought I saw from fifty metres away, how can the three officials dealing with that from close range, not see any serious problems around the aftermath of the penalty award?
If that was a Premier League game there would have been at least one straight red, approx six yellows, and the club being charged with failing to control their players.
Chuck in the comedy own goal and it was like a night at the circus - it had everything, apart from Mary Chipperfield beating chimps.
We beat Inter Milan.
Their goal: VVD was fouled. Martina should have cleared it. Forster was slow to get down.
Icardi is a grizzling fucking cunt who can fuck off.
We huffed and puffed in the first half but didn’t make many clear cut chances. J-Rod curled one just over, Redmond sliced one wide.
Can we now put the Tadic on penalty duty to bed. Even the ones he’s scored have been shit penalties. It wasn’t a penalty anyway.
At this point the ref completely lost control. Top gamesmanship from the whinging mama’s boys. In general the ref was abysmal all evening but I’m getting used to that being the case.
Second half was a different story. Austin came on and we suddenly looked much more threatening.
VVD grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and hauled us back into the game.
A lovely run, feint and shot from Hojbjerg led to a corner and Virgil slotted home after Romeu’s deft flick came back off the bar.
A frankly hilarious own goal gifts us the lead and job done.
Enjoyed our time wasting at the end. In a hurry now are we Giuseppe?
My ratings:
Forster 6: Struggled for their goal, some wayward kicking but redeemed himself towards the end of the game with a smart save from Icardi after a horror pass from Romeu.
Martina 4: He is shit. Yes he can run a bit and his crossing isn’t bad but positionally he is all over the place and last night he was not as progressive as usual. Hurry up See-Saws. This is where I would strengthen in January.
Yoshida 9: Excellent, fault free game from Yoshi. Best third choice center back we could hope for. Better than Fonte this season imho.
VVD 10: MOTM. Awesome. Best player on the pitch by a country mile. I’d fuck him.
McQueen 8: Didn’t put a foot wrong and gets better with every game. Ahead of Targett for me and pushing the excellent Bertrand. Happy days.
Romeu 8: That horror pass aside he had another solid night. His performances of late have been the backbone of a good run of results. Nice effort leading up to our opener and unlucky with a deflected shot in the first half.
Hojbjerg 7: Aggressive, good on the ball and a good passer. Would like to see him being a bit more dynamic and get forward quicker but he wins us a good deal of possession and I would start him whenever possible. More to come from him I reckon.
JWP 9: brilliant in the second half. Worked tirelessly and really gave us some momentum. Loving his new combative streak. Rightly booked but got their cunt booked too. Unlucky not to score. Top work.
Redmond 8: Also unlucky not to score after cutting in from the left after about 80 mins. and curling a right footer just wide. Works his socks off and is a constant threat. Once he finds his scoring boots he is going to be awesome.
Tadic 7: Not his best game and for fucks sake don’t ever let him near another penalty. Didn’t get him on the ball enough in the first half and when we did he was fouled by the cheating Italian bastards.
J-Rod 5: Not at the races still. As a friend of mine pointed out, he’s like the car that you should have traded in last year but you thought you’d be able to squeeze a few more miles out of. It’ll end up being scrapped for fuck all. Shame.
subs:
Austin 7: gave us a focal point and changed the momentum of the game without doing too much. Gets caught offside too often.
Davis 6: came on for Tadic to add a bit more energy for the last 15. Job done.
We beat Inter Milan.
I am changing my name to VVD

I wouldn’t be far away from those stats Goat, maybe a 6 for Hojbjerg as he was making simple mistakes like not passing or passing to the wrong person, Martina is simply shite and not a defender, he could play a role as stand in for weaker opposition or when chasing game or even out as a winger, Tadic was woeful and needs to learn as its stands he isn’t the best footballer in the squad let alone the league, he needs to pass more and keep his head up more to see the game when he has the ball and finally Rodriguez seriously needs to start on the bench.
We just got away we our team selection last night, just.
When are you dragging your arse down for a game Bazza?

This. The two games against Inter he’s been a revelation. For me, he never gets to the pace of the game as a sub (to be fair it’s usually for only 10-15 minutes anyway) but as a starter he is much more composed and in control of the game.
Got to agree about Martina. He’s too rabbit-in-headlights at times, trying to offload to Tadic ASAP rather than waiting for the right moment. I had hoped he’d turned a corner, but the last few games he’s been something of a weak link
VVD rightfully MOTM, but JWP a close second.
Anyone see that it finally got to Consortium 11?
A superb night. Beers on the train, caught up with SO5, Goatboy and Pap, beers in the pub (some of free of charge, courtesy of the pub) and then we beat Inter. Does not get much better.
