Absolutely. Our wastefulness in this competition has put us in this situation. Seriously though, how many times have we been in this EXACT situation this season? Dominate possession, fuck about with it slowly, sideways, backwards, without really testing the keeper and then getting hit by a sucker punch.

Our tempo is dreadful. Zero pressing. Dropping deep. And I have to say, that’s on the manager. That is tactics and style. Personnel is largely the same. ManĆ© the only one who’s contribution and qualities hasn’t been sufficiently replaced. (Maybe Pelles aerial and hold up play)

Now we are out of Europe we won’t have the excuse of multiple games and keeping players fresh as to why they aren’t pressing like mad to win the ball back high up the pitch.

Over to you Claude.

Let’s see what Claude Puel is now all about. I’ll admit I’ve been sufficiently underwhelmed by us this season.

At the risk of doom mongering, our Premier League wins have come against VERY poor sides.

Swansea are where they are for a reason. Same for Burnley.

West Ham were positively hideous at the back that day and Charlie scored a goal out of nowhere.

Everton were also very poor and we stunned them with an early scrappy goal.

So it is a problem when we don’t beat the likes of Hull, Sunderland, Stoke and Watford.

My concern is therefore this - we haven’t come out on top in more evenly matched encounters and two of the above games were won by a single goal.

I for one will welcome more urgency in our play in future. The self fulfilling prophecy of Europa football having a negative impact on a team has happened now so let’s see where we go from here.

As I said earlier - over to you Claude.

Is that what hard Brexit feels like?

Now spot the great BBC journalism here and the error!!!

Southampton 1-1 Hapoel Beer Sheva

Heartwarming scenes at St Mary’s (for the non-Southampton fans at least) as Hapeol Beer Sheva’s squad celebrate their remarkable success with the 1,500 travelling fans in one corner.

They’re partying like they have won the whole competition. And why not. It is the furthest they have ever gone in an European competition and they are also the first Israeli club to win on English soil.

Well that wasn’t the fuckin’ Southampton Way !!!

Annoyed to say the least :lou_angry:

Fuck.

Other than the fact it has saved me close to $10k in air fares and accommodation for 2 to Sweden in May, there is nothing positive about tonight and if I’m honest, this was pretty inevitable with the team and tactics we have, we were never going to keep a clean sheet and we were highly unlikely to score more than 1 goal.

Looking back, I feel sorry for those fans that forked out all their hard earned cash for the Europa Cup games away. I hope to fuck that Saints don’t start tossing out garbage about how unlucky we were or that we didn’t deserve to get knocked out. Over 6 games we were only the 3rd best team in the group. The 2 teams with the best tactics went through. End of story.

All that effort from last season just wasted.

Only an idiot will think we don’t need a goal scorer in January . Well, we needed one at the start of the season, but too much faith was put in Rodrigues and Long, so that has to go down as a royal fuck up by Les Reed. I don’t think Puel can shoulder all the blame. He can only work with the players he has been given, although I think the ā€œhoneymoon periodā€ is well and truly over and he had better hope he can get some decent results between now and when he gets the opportunity to sign a striker in January.

Ah I don’t know. The away goals rule still bugs me and always has - particularly in a league table-based group where it seems to defeat the very purpose of a league table-based group. Just a shame I’m going to look like a bitter little critter now that its cost my team.

I suppose you could say that overall, our European campaign was slightly less embarrassing than last year, so that’s improvement, but I’m still fkn gutted srs. Wonder how long we’ll have to wait for another go?

I have to say, for the first time tonight i’m really doubting CP. He got tonight completely wrong tactically, our midfield plays so deep in his formation that we’re basically lining up as 7-1-2.

I’ve got enough faith in him as a coach that I believe he can turn it round, but he’d better do it pretty fucking quickly or more fans will start to turn on him.

2 easy fixes are dropping Redmond for a few games and never ever playing Romeu and Hojbjerg in the same team again. They’re far too static to play alongside each other.

Utterly gutted and quite pessimistic now, but if we can respond to this (like we’ve said we will every time we’ve had a shitty loss this season) then i’ll change my tune.

I’d heard a lot about hard Brexit, but I didn’t think it would be this hard srs :lou_sad:

Please do not apologies for me forking out for Milan. I like most Saints fans would not have changed it for the world. It was one of the top experiences since I started supporting Saints. I look back this evening and think, wow if we had taken a point, but hey all in the past, but what a fantastic couple of days.
