Mara goes into the shop window as well
Bag O’ Shite
These players were bought to fit a plan.
4222.
It worked but Managers found a way to counter it.
So we tried 3 at the back 4231 and none of the players fit that.
We have to go back to 44 fvcking 2 and pressing.
Otherwise it’s game over
That is the problem. Ralph knew what he was trying to do. Jones has no clue.
I think it is anyway unless the huge mistake is realised and, never mind the cost, Jones is sacked.
At this moment I am more pessimistic about the state of Saints since the last time we were relegated
Er, did you see the games leading up to his departure?
New players desperately needed. January looms large
Here’s what I’m thinking, to stop all the misery over the coming months.
We will get relegated. If we don’t , I can be ecstatic.
We will probably lose most of the remaining games of this season - so when we do win or get a freaky draw, I can also be ecstatic.
One or two really good wins would be good, and as long as we just get relegated without any more unwanted PL records, I will be reasonably happy.
Once in the championship, we should do OK, because we will have a lot of good championship players, and a championship manager.
The way the EPL has been going, I will be philosophical, and ponder that we are probably best out of it, because we can’t compete financially with all the rich kids, and neither really can 10 other teams.
So for the rest of the season, I will not be being pessimistic as I forecast many losses, but realistic, and will not have to put up (hopefully) with the misery of the last two years and the accompanying weird team selections, players out of position, and strange and unusual formations.
However, if we do start winning and looking good, and don’t get relegated, I can afford to get pissed and sing in the street!
Oh no we won’t.
Jones must have had some sort of discussion with the board about his planned approach. He must have some idea of what he’s trying to do, even if it’s poorly thought out or unachievable.
Bottom and that folks is unfortunately where we will stay.
Why is it we never get a new manager bounce. Wolves win at Everton we lose 2 in a row 3-1.
I am normally a very positive fan, but I see this appointment as the wrong one at the wrong time. It stinks of all the bad choices we took in the early to mid 2000’s. We correct those quickly ish.
I hope I am wrong but this feels very familiar to me.
Oh there will be a plan, but if the plan is realistic or we can achieve it is a completely different story all together.
I am so fed up, I am leaving the country tonight.
From Twitter:
“Nathan Jones has told Adam Blackmore he doesn’t have the players he needs to play the way he wants. He hints that he wants more experience and more aggression.”
That will lose him the dressing room. He’s got a talented squad but has no idea of the tactics to use them. His idea seems to be to win PL games with a L1 approach.
In fairness, there is nothing in that comment that we all made in the summer.
He needs someone with experience in the CM role. The lunacy of letting emotions get the better of us & letting Romeu leave are haunting us, and we need a striker.
And as I mentioned out players fit 4222 variants, we need to be able to change to a plan B. Jones tried 5 different formations today - none worked except the 4222 and teams can get around that nowdays
Said in October that getting relegated could leave us as the new Stoke. Then we signed the Welsh Clown.
Bring it on.
God that was so depressing.
But worse was Twitter.
The loudest Ralph Out voices now demanding Jones Out.
Not one of them actually had a suggestion of who to replace Ralph with, mocked when some said be careful what you wish for and still now demanding Sean Dyche.
All so predictable and we all know how it ends.
With Fat Sam at the helm
So here’s where I’m at (and yes, I’ve had a particularly trying Xmas with the exception of Harvey being home from Uni ) …
The relegation form is probably from 17 points (to date) and downwards. Then you look at “who’s got it about them” and you discount Leicester, Wolves, West Ham etc. Then you end up with 3 from 4 … Leeds, Forest, Bompey and Us. It’s pretty depressing really but I feel this year it’s inevitable having flirted with it for a number of seasons. Personally, it’s also the year I’ve lost the most interest in the Club. I feel that the covid break finally did for me, coupled with the ever growing gulf caused by money in the game.
Had a conversation with junior today about when was the last time we saw a championship player make a real breakthrough in the Prem? Not immediately obvious? Well, that’s our model … Adama, Che etc. It’s no wonder that we can’t compete. More fundamental to the club being broken … the football pyramid is broken. Maybe the super league should be back on the table. Let them go and play their oil-funded games and let grass roots football grow ? Put a rule in place about bringing talent in through the pyramid?
Anyway, happy Xmas and an early happy new year to you all. Hold your loved ones close
