Didn’t see the game but Phil Thompson was praising Ralph for that because it coincided with Fulham scoring and effectively meant a point was enough.
Game was still very winnable. Yes of course we should not have thrown players forward, but watching Austin receiving the ball by the edge of the area, in some space, and then turning 180 degrees and heading for the flag was nuts. Bompey fans enjoyed that via song and they were right.
Plus Fulham’s game finished after ours!
Very true. But with Jack Stephens on the pitch perhaps Charlie thought it best to keep it in the opposite corner.
I’m really intrigued to see the ins and outs in the summer. Can we finally and permanently shift out some of the ropey signings who are out on loan? Can Ralph get a tune out of one of them upon their return?
Either way, whatever happens we finally have a manager whose judgement we can implicitly trust.
Interesting game tactically. Howe went to 442 when getting battered and turned it around then Ralph went to 5 at the back for the second half and the game swung again.
Awful defending for most of the game and Bucks is right, that time wasting at the end was bollocks.
Still, the hairdressers and championship standard wasters kept us up.
I’m full of praise for the time wasting, and it was really good quality time wasting.
Why?
Because we all know that IF James Beattie had gone to the corner flag at Boro, we wouldn’t have been relegated that season.
Meanwhile another EPL record
Don’t you mean Crouch?
The corner flag stuff at the end, wasn’t pretty but it was necessary, fuck what the Bompey fans think, in our situation they would have done the same.
Beer, who am I?
T’was crouch!
Might be referring to two different games here. Crouch’s weak shot was at home to Everton - if he’d blasted it into the crowd the chances of them scoring in the time left would have been close to zero. As it was they moved the ball out quickly and Bent scored a screamer.
