I’ll end on a hopefully promising note:

“We are hopeful of concluding positive discussions soon, that are underway on contract extentions with two players that will please the fans”.

Not allowed to name names, but it is not Victor Wanyama. Hardly a great secret, but he’ll not be with us for very much longer.

Have a great weekend my friends. :lou_smiley:

Mane & Long? That would be something. :lou_lol:

Tho probably more likely Pelle & Tadic. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I don’t have permission to say mate. It’s for the Club to reveal, and I shall steal no thunder from such excellent announcements.

Hi people

Welcome to Sotonians mate [and same to all our recent new members].

It really is wonderful to see so many new colourful arrays of avatars lighting up the place. One of charms of Sotonians has always been its intimate [no, not like that] and tight-knit sense of community and camaraderie – but we had been talking about embracing growth a month or so back now – and it’s refreshing to see so many great new contributors arriving. :lou_lol:

one point regarding the JS post about our next manager.

His source said that there were 2 firm favourites, but didn’t want to give names, as the club didn’t want it advertised that they were available. So surely no manager that is out of work at the moment fits the bill.

The ‘two favourites’ bit has since changed, after Rudi Garcia dropped down the pecking order [for whatever reasons], and Manuel letting it be known that he would be keen on the job. We [as it was put to me] “paused for breath” at that point, and took some time to consider and discuss our options afresh. We had our thoughts very much aligned on a given direction previously – but the issues with Rudi, and then Manuel’s agent clearly impressing upon the Board sufficiently that he feels he can come in and do a job for us, gave pause for thought.

When a manager of the class, pedigree and experience of Manuel Pellegrini comes to you and says he wants to manage your Club – you listen to what he has to say.

As for the not naming part, I understand that it was simply us not wanting to draw attention to the fact that these quality managers are available. Not everyone [clubs] are as thorough and diligent in their search for potential new managers as we are – and alerting to such by having their names flashed around the media in connection to us, is going to put them in the shop window, so to speak.

Once the names leaked in the media, we’re free to acknowledge them ourselves.

True. But Chris is actually a sound bloke. And so is his cousin. :lou_wink_2:

He is the first of the two, yes. A massive and very popular player for us, and most excellent news of his extended stay.

Another is “expected” relatively soon, and there are two other deals being worked on, but they are a bit further down the pipeline. At least, so I am informed anyway. I know fuck all myself.

Ok I’ll take that! I do love Stevie D and am very happy he is staying… :))

Just to see that we have turned a corner with players it would be grand to see ManĂŠ and now Long sign. Hell can we just tie all the 1st team players down to new deals?

I reckon Manuel is a lot better than City’s results suggest this season. The foot came off the gas the moment that Pep Guardiola was announced as manager, although I’d argue that was probably happening when everything was at a speculative stage too.

Whatever happens, the fact that he’s keen should be seen as a positive. If we appoint him, he’ll be the first manager we’ve appointed at the top level since coming back up with actual Premier League experience. We may even get a chance to sign players we otherwise would not have signed.

Extremely decent pedigree. I would wonder how the club would cope with someone of his stature coming in.

Still chilling on the porch here in sunny Zabiersow watching the world go by…

I’d send Eric round but he’s all fvcked up right now as his Daughter got him a box of UFO sweets for Father’s day.

I think Chris is still suffering from a head injury which occurred at half time in the eng Russia game when I stood up from our inflatable Heineken sofa & he went flying. (ROFL moment)

Meanwhile I now have camping available for up to 20 Saints fans IF we draw Krakow OR Wroclaw in Europe League plus ability to get tickets. More to this trip than soap operas I can tell ya.

Frank De Boer was always my favourite for the job. But like most Saints fans…utmost faith in Sir Les and the Saints powers to be. Hopefully a decision very soon…onwards and upwards  I will be in my normal place at home games to give constructive advice to the new coach and of course to the match officials. COYS

Bloody hell. I only mentioned Ottery an hour ago & here he is!

If anyone doesn’t think Pellegrini is a good enough manager, then they need their fucking head checking. Pellegrini was taken on at City because their first two choices weren’t available - Guardiola and Mourinho. He then won the League, 2 League Cups and got City to the Semi’s of the Cl. I think that tells us the gravitas of the man. Just having him come in would probably get players of the ilk of Mane to think again about leaving.

Oh, and he is a thoroughly decent bloke to boot.

I agree. City have done a real favour to his future employers and he comes with very little baggage. He handled himself with a lot of decorum when other managers that have achieved a hell of a lot less would have taken the royal hump.

Now I doubt that the fella _needs _to be loved. His record speaks for itself, which is probably why he managed such a dignified “whatevs” when Guardiola was announced. With the torrid time both parties have had with respect to managerial positions though, it could be a really good fit.

He looks like Howard Marks with jaundice.

I had a dream that Saints signed Manuel on Monday morning and AUGERO by Monday afternoon  Manuel may actually be true  I will have to learn how to spell Pellegrini :astonished:

Just in:

Have had it ‘confirmed’ to me today that Claude Puel has already been sounded out at length, and would take the job if offered. Vitor Pereira has now been spoken to in further detail, and remains extremely keen. Am told the bloke “oozes passion!” Manuel Pellegrini currently in ongoing talks. :lou_lol:

It was also reiterated to expect more contract news soon.

I’d be happy with any of those 3, having read up a bit more on their individual tactical styles.

Pereira seems to be very focused on his pressing style, similar to Poch.
Puel is a bit of an idealist, likes his teams to attack heavily.
Pellegrini seems a bit more pragmatic with a free-flowing style.

Would be interested to see how they would each fit in to the club, still think that Pereira is the best fit for us perfectly - only question mark is his recent nomadic career history, but he seems to have done very well at his last few clubs.

Agreed SuperMikey, would be happy with all 3, but particularly love the idea of Pellegrini. Would he come with his own assistant, head coach etc? If not, then this could be a great opportunity for the club to train up a new number 2 “in house” (Super Kelv for example) to take over the reins in 5 years when Pellegrini finally hangs up his managerial suit? Anyone else think this model might fit the long term aims of the club as well as a short term great appointment?

Welcome DCb! The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that MP would be a good fit.

Have to say, just the thought of having a manager of the standing of Pellegrini be interested in, let alone directly approach us makes me blink!

Shows what a distance we’ve come both on and off the field.
