Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has been asked about the future of midfielder Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese winger was dropped for the game against Norwich after turning up late for a meeting and has since been linked with a move to Manchester United.

“It’s too easy to say after mistakes that players are showing they would like to move,” said Koeman before their FA Cup tie with Crystal Palace.

"The players know their positions within the club, and what we think about them. There’s no reason to doubt them.

“If there is any player thinking if his behaviour isn’t good, it makes it easier for the player, then I’ll put the player in the stands until the end of their contract. That’s not how you do your job as a footballer.”

It’s good to see that RK putting his foot down for the club. I don’t know if it’ll work, but he’s a big figure in football, with a glittering playing career behind him. I’m not sure we’ve had anyone with more gravitas; there’s that famous (perhaps apocryphal) story about Alan Ball banging his World Cup medal on the desk in front of MLT, the last manager with comparable playing achievements.

Strong words; I like him more for it. Sounds like he genuinely gives a shit about professionalism as well as the club itself.

Fantastic bloke. We’re so lucky to have him. Decent set of questions for him as well for once.
