It’s just the internet dude, Barry in real life is the Scouse Comic Ken Dodd, he pm’d me.
How is it homophobic? And why has it taken you a year to be offended by it?
It doesn’t make any sense mate.
With all seriousness Barry, why do you post here dude?
You’re ignoring the questions again Barry. Should i assume that you have given up trying to defend the statue of a man singularly famous for treason against his own country, for nothing more than the belief that white people are superior to black people and as such can do as they please to them. Surely anyone defending that is a bit backwards.
If we are going to be chucking around off topic questions, can i ask, why are you so obsessed with people you view as different(not white) to yourself and why those differences appear to scare you so much that you can’t stop going on about them?
You might want to see someone about that. It’s not healthy.
Exactly mate
How long did it take you to be offended by a statue in Charlottesville?
I’m colour blind not culture blind, but we digress don’t we, like you do as always, anyway I’m off to bed ladies and gentleman, goodnight.
Memory fading again Barry? Soggy said before that he doesn’t care, but accepts people there do.
Maybe time for bed, recharge your hate.
Goodnight SOS, you stay polite and nice now.
Keep telling yourself that Barry.
It’s complicated, sorry I don’t log on here. I cant log on to anyone
I will just write some funny gifs
Oh jeez
SOG put the name up and I bought it for him.
There is nothing meant by it apart from humorous banter (we are allowed banter on a football forum)
and his next name is up for grabs But we need a couple of good ones to get the spondullies flooding in.
NB I do not do PC well as various threads over the life of this forum will attest to.
so if Barry has a beef it is with me not Chutters or SOG
I’ll answer your question Barry as Unlike yourself I won’t run away from providing an answer
I can’t say I am offended by the Statue because I have never seen it. It is 3500miles away and has no bearing in my life. Up until last week I knew such statues existed but had not really considered the situation (being a bleeding heart liberal there are just so many causes that I have not gotten round to them all yet…).
However, it’s clear now that these statues sadly represent 2 things: to local black folks they suggest a celebratory function of those who defended slavery and oppression - and you seem to forget that in many Southern states slavery may have been abolished but segregation was still going on in the 60s - it is still raw and there is still a lot of prejudice. It does not mater what I think but what is important is that this offensive to local black people TODAY.
I have no idea why this has only recently come to our attention, but you can’t use that suggest that it’s only recently become offensive … up until the 60s there would have no say in the matter and it may have taken years of campaigning to get to this stage which seem much more likely than your rather naive assumption that Black people only just became offended by it …
The second is the issue of what these statues symbolise to White supremacists and racists. We have covered that so I won’t repeat it here.
so I’m a nutshell Barry, I have only recently become aware of this and so only recently considered it - my conclusions based on the above are that it should come down.
i would have come to a similar conclusion had I considered a year ago or 30 years ago.
noe it’s your turn. Only fair that you address why my name has taken you 12 months to find offensive? I won’t hold my breath as it’s another one of your WUM POVs - they are getting a bit obvious now especially when on the homophobia in football thread you see nothing offensive is out the ‘bants’ - suggesting you know how to ‘have fun’ (at expense of gay folk)
still waiting…
The escalation continues.
The saddest thing I saw this weekend was some “alt-l” bigot giving Bruce Forsyth a “send off” because he donated to the Tory Party.
Then Boston. In fairness (but no doubt ignored by many) the alt-r did get permits and did publicly state that they would not allow any “hate preaching”. And in fact only a few people turned up to a bandstand.
And then THOUSANDS of alt-l “protesters” marched in protest (as is their right) but ended up throwing rocks and urine at the Police.
I guess if this trend continues, it will become illegal to NOT be a Communist?
Back to the Statues. IF they are offensive then so is the Confederate Flag. Perhaps the burn it down brigade could press for legislation to make it an offense to show that flag? Get them removed from Cars etc.
And IMHO they SHOULD. It is a far more widespread “Symbol” of “White Supremacy” than any statues
Why do anything now if, theoretically, it could have been done yesterday?
Removing the statues is an issue for the government (or private entity) that owns the property on which the statue sits. Obama, at most, could only control statues on federal property administered by the executive branch. Other that civil war battlefields that are now national monuments (a place which such statues might be appropriate for historical reasons), I doubt there are many statues of confederates within his former purview. More importantly, it would have been politically impossible for him to get them removed without stirring up the racists and he had better things to do with his limited politcal capital.
