šŸ‘¢ 🐰 Ralph Hasenbooted?

There may be some truth in here, but there are definitely some points where I call bullshit, sorry

It bothers me that he’s a devout Christian.

  1. because It’s a strong indication of mental fragility and an intellectual void.

  2. it seems incongruous with his characterisation as someone who likes his teams to play dirty. Seems quite likely that one day he might have an epiphany, realise the error of his ways and flagellate himself and the team to make amends.

  3. I worry he’s going to pervert the saints brand Identity by associating it with religion.

  4. he’s Welsh he should be a wiccan not a Christian how can you trust someone like that.

I’m also perplexed by his Wikipedia entry

Jones began his career with Football Conference club Merthyr Tydfil before joining Luton Town in the summer of 1995. He became homesick at Luton so took an opportunity to move to Spain with Badajoz and then Numancia.

How can you trust someone who rocks up in Luton does a couple of keepy uppies then announces that he’s homesick for Merthyr and he want to leave but then fucks off to Spain? Doesn’t sound very Christian to me.

I don’t like his face either, he just looks like he’s got a very small brain. Ratty, Llllallllllanaesque.

An interesting read and I’d guess a fair bit of truth. But it’s the view of an anonymous player and inevitably written from his point of view.

But I do agree:
Losing Krohl was critical. You could see Ralph was lost without him.
Ralph’s tactics slowly bacame more confused and confusing for players, getting more and more rigid. I can believe he was dictatorial in insisting how they played. He recovered his best system twice - after the Leicester 0-9 and COVID but is too confused now.
Some players most likely did challenge him (eg Redmond) and were then ostracised.
Ralph was let down by I flexibility in player recruitment which has led to no striker and too few experienced players to support and nurture youth.

But I’m not sure about some of the other stuff - celebrations etc. He always said he liked the players to get the praise first.

From a Stoke fan: When Jones was appointed there the players hadn’t heard of him, thought they were above him and he lost them straight away.

What will happen at Saints? Establishing himself will be a big challenge.

Thanks.

If that’s the case (might not be, it’s a fans opinion) it would say more about the culture that existed there and the attitude of the players.

They are a bigger club than Luton with moneybags owners and sit 19th in the Championship.

Just wondering, with all this meltdown

Are we getting wound up because Jones is being interviewed,?
Technically other candidates are out of work atm

No it’s because much of our fan base expect us to sign a ā€œbig nameā€ very experienced manager.

No issues there, because the best ones would rush to come to us, in the bottom three with a modest budget. And the rest would guarantee a decent amount of success because of who they are.

Like Mark Hughes. Or Pellegrino.

I wondered if someone thought ā€œif we say we’re talking to this bloke, but after Tuesday, it will stop all the media speculation, and we’ll have a bit of piece and quiet while we get on with picking another blokeā€.

My thoughts exactly, a bit of misdirection, much like our player recruitment policy.

I did moan elsewhere that our fans have become so entitled recently, and I was wondering where that came from

And all social media sites.

All of them know best, we can’t possibly get success without a well known name.

As if any of them had heard of Lavia, Bella-Kotchap or Livramento before.

A lasting thought I have is how narrow the margins have been. You could see Ralph’s energy draining away with every attempt to find a winning formula resulting in another one goal defeat. It wasn’t his fault that defenders made silly errors or forwards couldn’t take simple chances. Three goals in any of half a dozen games at the right time would have given us 5 more points now. We’d be mid-table. Players coming back from injury. Youngsters coming through. January window to get a striker. A tiny difference with a hugely different outcome.

They simply buy into all the media shit about how a massive spend is needed for success and if clubs don’t spend they’re showing no ambition.

Here’s a classic example from The Other Place

Especially us … we are not an Everton or a Newcastle… we won’t put up huge protesting banners and take days off work for 1000s of loyal fans to turn up daily and protest and eventually get wot the want … we don’t do that down here … wish we did tho !
Show the board exactly how we feel.
No disrespect to NJ … it’s the lack of ambition wen clubs around us are hiring pedigree and top flight experience!
No matter who the owners we always always go cheap . Dragan is a billionaire… we have the resources to go bigger than Nathan fucking jones !

I’m getting that 1991 vibe again.

All the speculation was about Dalglish or Ron Atkinson. Instead we got Ian Fucking Branfoot.

The only difference now is that I’m too old and knackered to re-sign for my Saturday team (and they folded years ago).

I am going to go right out on a lethally tiny limb and say that Nathan Jones will be better than Branfoot.

Mad, impulsive me

I’d make sure that limb is close to ground level. I have Stoke friends laughing uncontrollably at us.

I agree wholeheartedly but he can be blamed for a lot of other things that he did that ultimately cost us points and dented confidence.

Team selections (picking the same side and style of play against Arsenal and then immediately afterwards, Burnley) for instance. This point is discussed and brilliantly summarised in this discussion between Echo reporters. It’s all worth a listen as they are entirely sensible, but the bit in question is from Benjy after about 35 mins.

I was a huge fan of his but it was clear to me that he’s lost his way, run out of ideas and is completely deflated. All of that combined has meant that change was not only needed but inevitable.
