Nope, Ed Sheeran is high up in the political wing of the GEA (Ginger Emancipation Army).
In their latest act of terror, they stormed a beach and put henna freckles on sleeping sunbathers. Sadly, one of them forgot his Factor 50 and died, ten steps into the sunlight.
That could be said for many, Jimmy Buffet is huge in the states but most here would think its a takeaway, the contribution to music that band (Nirvana) made is undeniable, their legacy is cemented in time, the killers? Not so.
Female icon, evolving with the times successfully for decades. Second only to Jackson as the individual pop performer of the 1980s and 90s. Her songs stand the test of time.
Nirvana
The band that allowed trendy kids to like rock music again.
Foos went on to perfect the art, melding accessibility with authenticity. There are people that would never have touched much 80s or 90s rock that loved Nirvana. Those same people like the Foos.
NWA
Progenitors of gangsta rap. Their stuff is still played today. The band were twats to Easy E. I am glad they patched things up before the end. Several band members went onto lasting influence on the music.
Depeche Mode
The one band as a teenager that I can remember everyone liking, irrespective of where their steadfast musical loyalties lie.
I could list more but frankly canât be arsed son.
I do think Radiohead are a big band, but thatâs off the back of their early stuff. After that, their appeal gets more selective.
First things first, I think itâs pretty sad that youâre trying to equate a film being shown in Israel with someone going there to perform. Ken Loach is not in Israel promoting the film. The international distribution is being handled by Wild Bunch films. There are separate deals for the UK and France with other firms.
Even if Loach _is _a hypocrite, itâs a fairly loathsome tactic to use hypocrisy to divert attention from a country in contravention of numerous international laws, actively practising discrimination against specific ethnic groups, illegally annexing bits of other countries or building settlements on land that is internationally recognised as not theirs.
If Loach were the biggest hypocrite on Earth, nothing would change those facts. Are you honestly suggesting that a screening of âI, Daniel Blakeâ in a cinema, is the moral equivalent of a politically conscious band going to perform in one of the most bitterly divided spots in the world?
The hypocrisy isnât whatâs getting the Palestinians. Itâs the incursions, the bomb strikes on UN Education centres or hospitals, and entirely compliant media that wonât air Palestinians voices.
Say what you like about Israel, but it has one of the most proportional systems in the world. It is my hope that a coalition can be built between more progressive forces, and then, Iâd have zero fucking problem with Radiohead playing there.
Right now, no way, and hypocrite or not, Loach is entirely correct when he says that Radiohead will permanently damage their reputation by playing there this time, while the extremists have the whip hand.
All the shit ones, going on what youâve said here and the glastonbury thread.
Hereâs a different view.
AC DC
Fans and critics alike praise them for being able to carry their songs using only three chords and constantly bludgeoning riffs. They rank highly on this list not only for that very definition, but because they have taken the gospel of rock and turned it into a Wal Mart commodity, joining Aerosmith in having Guitar Hero avatars and countless songs on the charts that are nigh-indiscernible. They represent classic rock on its last legs, and while that may be supportable, its no reason to put them on so incredible a pedestal.
Metallica
Metallica, contrary to popular belief, did not reinvent the wheel known as heavy metal and are not so much a major creative influence as a very popular band. Their range from speed rock to epic âcompositionâ is very hollow on close inspection, both musically and lyrically.
GunsN**â Roses**
Axl Rose is possibly the quintessential overrated hair metal frontman, the paramount of flashy, overbearing crankiness that some critics take as a form of ambition. How did this band become known as one of the greatest influences in rock today? Slash is a great guitarist, but a solo does not make a song. A worthy guitar band, but as monumental artists, they leave much to be desired.
