“Nothing is ‘on offer’. All they are saying is we’ll give you the TV money that the 19th and 20th PL teams would have got, and pretend that because they’re relegated we’ve upped the funding to the rest of the league. In return, a self-selected clique get effective control of the whole system. Absolute naked power grab, on the back of a crisis caused by the deaths of tens of thousands of our fellow citizens with thousands more to come. Venal doesn’t begin to cover it.”
I agree, the best comment by far and its true they’ll never get relegated so fuck the teams battling to stay there, I truly dislike the big clubs and the irony is we’re told football is more than life by Liverpool fans and they wave political slogans left right and centre at matches but bring this up they say politics shouldn’t be in it, pure hypocrisy.
What they have actually said is that the 20 clubs unanimously agreed that the FA and Premier League would not endorse it and tell them “go fuck yourselves”. Basically making it a non starter. NOT that they unanimously agreed it was a toxic and cunty idea from the get go. Therefore explaining why there weren’t 6-9 votes in favour of it.
“All 20 Premier League clubs today unanimously agreed that “Project Big Picture” will not be endorsed or pursued by the Premier League, or The FA.“
"It was at that point that Martin Semmens, chief executive of Southampton, one of the clubs bitterly opposed to the power grab outlined in the PBP document, said that it was crucial questions were asked of proposals that many felt threatened the very basis of the league’s success. "
Here is where our “scabby” club stands on the issue
Thankfully the article finishes with a reminder of the reaction of fans of even the Big 6 when this story last broke. Whether the clubs will take any notice at all is another thing.
The sad thing is they’re not even trying to hide the hypocrisy, crying about too many games and fixtures congestion whilst campaigning for expansion of European cup competitions. Scaling down the domestic cup competitions will likely kill off a fair few lower league clubs.
