Watching Arsenal Villareal. Now, I get why keepers don’t launch the ball forward like they used to. I understand the concept of retaining possession and playing out from the back, and creating the shape and position that the team wants. But can someone please explain to me the advantage of the keeper not hoofing a forward ball, instead playing the short ball inside the box, followed by two more such passes, all of which were in reach of attackers and potentially disastrous with the mildest error in passing, to end up with the left back near the corner flag and under absolutely no pressure whatsoever, without a forward within 20 yards of him, who then hoofs the fucking long ball anyway like the goalie could have done 30 seconds ago? FFS.
