Virgil van Dijk has reiterated his desire to join Liverpool
The Southampton star, 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks.
Liverpool withdrew their interest last month after being accused of tapping up the Dutch defender.
Van Dijk was left at home last week instead of joining his team-mates on their pre-season tour, further sparking exit rumours.
And the Liverpool Echo says Van Dijk held crunch talks with Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino this week over his future.
Southampton hoped the centre-half would accept staying at St. Mary’s and get ready for the season.

First Saints Street Session held

More than 40 people from the local area turned out to the open access session, where Saints Foundation joined forces with members of Team Extreme, who were on hand to showcase their skills, and deliver demonstrations and competitions for those participating.
Member of Team Extreme, and professional Scooter rider, Terry Price was just one of those who understands how extreme sports can have a positive effect on the local community.
He said: “We get a lot of kids from all ages turning up to events like this, but the main thing is that it gets them out in the sunshine, gets them active, gets them social, and gets them off the Xbox and PlayStation.
"We always have good kids here that don’t always come from the best of backgrounds, but we always see a good change in their personalities and change in general outlook on life quite often.”
Saints Foundation work in a number of different areas to promote social growth in the local community, and the new Saints Street Sessions, as part of the Saints Kicks and Premier League 4 Sport programmes, will work to engage kids over the course of the summer holidays in free sessions they possibly couldn’t get elsewhere.
Commenting on the positive social effect of the event, Terry added: “The only times you ever get negativity at a skate park is from outsiders and you’d never get it from the BMXers, skateboarders or scooter riders.
"It’s a really good way of building that social growth between kids, riders and the police. Skate parks are a really good hub for that, everyone comes together and we’re all here to do what we love to do.”

Virgil van Dijk is becoming increasingly desperate as he strives to join Liverpool
Dutch defender Van Dijk has been linked with a switch to Anfield all summer long but an ugly transfer saga has surrounded him for months.
The 26-year-old has been training alone at Southampton and wants showdown talks with new boss Mauricio Pellegrino.
The Sun claim Van Dijk ‘will plead’ with the Saints to allow him to finally complete his exit and is ‘becoming increasingly desperate’ as he seeks to sort out his future.
And it is said that the centre-back is worried that Reds boss Klopp will turn to other options soon if a breakthrough can not be reached.
