Southampton’s Quincy Promes deal unlikely with Spartak Moscow struggling to find replacement
Southampton are unlikely to complete a deal for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes with the Russian club struggling to replace the Dutchman, according to Sky sources.
We understand Saints have offered the fee Spartak want for Promes, which is in the region of £30m, but without a replacement the Russian champions are reluctant to let him leave.
Promes, who is under contract in Moscow until June 2021, played a key role in Spartak’s league title success last season and was named Footballer of the Year in Russia in 2017.
The former FC Twente winger has continued his fine form this season, scoring 15 goals in 25 games in all competitions for Spartak this term.
Southampton have already broken their transfer record this month with the acquisition of Guido Carrillo, who arrived at St Mary’s in a £19.1m deal from Monaco.
At the start of the January transfer window, Southampton sold Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in a £75m world-record fee for a defender.

Southampton’s proposed club-record move for Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes has collapsed, according to talkSPORT sources.
The Premier League side were hoping to land the Netherlands international before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline, with the Saints reportedly willing to pay around £26million for the winger.
However, it is believed the deal is now off.
Spartak were reluctant to sell Promes but would have allowed their star man to leave if his £31million release clause was met in full upfront.
That is not common place in most deals, which are often paid in instalments and, despite the recent £75million sale of Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool, Southampton were not prepared to pay up.
The Russian champions were also struggling to find an adequate replacement for the Dutchman in the remaining hours of the transfer window, so they have pulled the plug.
It represents a big blow to Southampton, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino hoping to bolster his struggling side further following the record signing of Monaco striker Guido Carrillo.
Promes, who has been compared to Sadio Mane by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, was named the player of the year in Russia last season and has scored 12 goals in 24 games this term.
The work will begin in the early hours of the morning and is due to continue until the afternoon.
During this time, no sales will be possible, either online or from the Ticket Office in person or via phone.
We will update supporters as soon as the systems are back online and sales are re-opened.
As a result of the upgrade, please note that tickets for Southampton’s home game against Stoke City will now go on general sale at 9am on Friday, rather than Thursday as previously advertised.
