No Manchester City Virgil van Dijk talks

Southampton have not held talks with Premier League leaders Manchester City regarding the transfer of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed.
Reports suggested City have entered into negotiations with Southampton to take the central defender to the Etihad Stadium in the January transfer window.
“I was with (Southampton vice-chairman) Les Reed talking about that but nobody knows about that,” Pellegrino said.
“I know Virgil is an important player and around him will be a lot of speculation like other important players in the squad. I cannot control this and I don’t want to talk about it.”
Van Dijk, who has made 12 Premier League starts for Southampton, was wanted by several clubs, including Liverpool, who were forced to make a public apology after being accused of making an illegal approach for the player in the summer.
Pellegrino believes the intense speculation surrounding Van Dijk’s future is not likely to affect the player.
He added: “In the past when I was a player I didn’t have the same name as Virgil in the media, but when you hear something that another club wants you it increases the confidence.”

It’s almost Christmas and there is plenty at stake for the Premier League club’s in action today.
There is no change at the top of table, of course. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have comfortably secured Christmas No.1 after thrashing Bournemouth 4-0.
Nobody wants to be bottom at this time of year - stats have proved there is no going back for those who are down in 20th place.
And although managerless Swansea produced a spirited fightback under caretaker boss Leon Britton to draw 1-1 with Crystal Palace,they take the unwanted prize as they remain rooted to the bottom.
West Brom are still searching for their first win under new boss Alan Pardew as they lost 3-1 at Stoke. Newcastle ended their dreadful run of form as they beat West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium.
Elsewhere, Burnley take on Tottenham at Turf Moor and either side could move above Arsenal to fifth place if they win.
Mancheter United travel to 2015/16 champions Leicester in the late 7.45pm kick-off.

Huddersfield’s long-awaited second league win on the road at Watford lifted them up to 11th in the table, six points clear of the relegation zone, and they could climb into the top 10 at the season’s halfway stage with victory on Saturday.
“As everybody can imagine, we have a fantastic mood in the dressing room at the minute,” boss David Wagner said.
“We drive to Southampton with 21 points after 18 games and a very good away performance and now it’s on to the next one in this busy Christmas period.”
Wagner will be without Elias Kachunga for between 10 and 12 weeks after the forward sustained knee ligament damage in last week’s 4-1 win at Watford.
Jonathan Hogg will also be missing at the St Mary’s Stadium as he serves a one-game ban following his two yellow cards at Vicarage Road.
Mauricio Pellegrino plans to rotate his squad during the busy festive period and hinted Virgil Van Dijk could be recalled for the Terriers game at St Mary’s.
“I will decide and confirm the team and Virgil is like everybody; he can be on the bench because I rotate all of them when you’ve got a lot of games in a row, like we did last week.”
