Yoshida: No change in approach

Show/hide article…
Maya Yoshida does not believe Southampton should change their approach against Liverpool, and should again be positive in their search for the first goal.
Saints won the opening leg of their EFL Cup semi-final 1-0, at St Mary’s, as they produced a dominant performance on home soil to give themselves a slender advantage.
They now head to Anfield for tonight’s decider, and Yoshida says the team should not look to be too protective, but again see if they can hurt Liverpool’s defence.
"We played very well in the last game against them,” said Yoshida. “Maybe we need to score a few more goals, but still we have an advantage.
“But let’s win the game. We shouldn’t think about a draw, because then they will start to punish us.
"It’s the same approach as usual. That’s the most important thing. The last game, against Leicester, we played well.
“If we score one goal away, it would be massive for us. That’s why we need to try to get the first goal there.”
Yoshida explained that there is a real sense of excitement among the squad ahead of this evening’s game, which will end with one team heading to Wembley, for the final, against either Manchester United or Hull City.
"Obviously, we are buzzing to play against Liverpool, at Anfield,” said Yoshida. “It’s one of the most difficult places to go and play, and one of the best stadiums in the world, so we need to make sure we are ready and that we get to a final.”
