Transfer Rater: Dusan Tadic to Liverpool, Lorenzo Insigne to Chelsea

Show/hide article…

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today’s top five emerging whispers for the summer. And keep an eye on on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Celtic defender Simunovic is a Huddersfield Town transfer target, according to the Daily Mail. David Wagner’s side need to strengthen ahead of their Premier League debut and are also set to bring in Aaron Mooy for a club record £10 million fee.

Simunovic wouldn’t cost that much – he’s reportedly worth around £8m. The 22-year-old was set to leave Celtic last season, but a move to Torino fell through at the last minute and he’s developed well under Brendan Rodgers, going on to win the treble.

Liverpool love a player from Southampton, with Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane all swapping the south coast for Merseyside in the last three seasons. Virgil van Dijk had also been a Liverpool transfer target until recently too.

And Tadic’s £13m release clause has attracted Jurgen Klopp’s eye, according to the Independent, who claim he is one of seven potential summer arrivals on Liverpool’s transfer wish-list, which includes Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Timo Werner.

Tadic has been coy over a move to Anfield, saying: “We will see. You never know in football. In every club, sometimes players leave.”

Ake was hugely impressive in his loan spell at the Vitality Stadium during the first half of the 2016-17 season before he was recalled to Chelsea.

After signing Asmir Begovic on a permanent deal from Antonio Conte’s side, Eddie Howe is thought to have made Ake a key Bournemouth transfer target for the summer. The Cherries are said to be preparing another bid for the Dutchman, who last month admitted he’d like to be playing more games.

Chelsea have made a £53m bid for Napoli’s Insigne, according to the Independent. With Diego Costa on his way out of Stamford Bridge after Conte told him via text message he didn’t want him at the club any more, Insigne is the perfect replacement, having scored 18 goals for Napoli as they finished third in Serie A last season.

But it will take a major offer for him to leave with his agent, Franco della Monica, telling Radio Kiss Kiss: “The priority for Lorenzo is to be wearing the Napoli shirt.”

Sky Italia say Inter Milan’s Banega is an Everton target. Inter teammates Marcelo Brozovic and Jeison Murillo are also on their radar, as are Carlos Bacca, M’Baye Niang and Gianluca Lapadula of Milan.

Everton director of football Steve Walsh has been in the Italian city discussing potential moves for the six, as they look to add to their summer signings with Davy Klaassen and Jordan Pickford already arriving at Goodison Park.

Le Tissier has high hopes for England Under-21s

Show/hide article…

The Young Lions kick-start their campaign against Sweden today (17:00 BST), and will be hoping to replicate the Under-20 World Cup and Toulon Tournament successes.

“I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on the results,” explained Le Tissier.

“The youngsters so far this summer have done brilliantly and it is has been an exciting time for England’s youth development.

“So I’ll be keeping an ear to the ground throughout the tournament, and hopefully they can go and win that as well.”

Saints have four representatives in Aidy Boothroyd’s squad: James Ward-Prowse, Nathan Redmond, Jack Stephens and Matt Targett.

And Le Tissier is hopeful that the quartet can use the under-21 platform to launch successful senior international careers.

“It’s great for the club when the players are getting international recognition,” he continued.

“We saw Ryan [Bertrand] setting up Harry Kane superbly in the last senior game against France the other week.

“So the boys in the Under-21s now have a chance to go and make their mark at that level, and hopefully they too can then step up to the senior level.”

Redmond: ‘Young England stars deserve Premier League chance’

Show/hide article…

SAINTS ace Nathan Redmond insists England’s young stars are ready to shine in the Premier League.

The England Under-21 winger believes they deserve a chance in the top flight after success this summer.

The Under-20s won the World Cup last Sunday while a mixed age group - including Saint Callum Slattery - retained the Toulon Tournament title and the Under-17s were runners-up at the European Championships in May.

Aidy Boothroyd’s Under-21s side are preparing for tonight’s Euro 2017 opener against holders Sweden in Poland and Redmond wants age group success to be rewarded with Premier League starts.

“I hope so. You look at the bulk of this squad now, Jordan Pickford, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Tammy (Abraham) has had a wonderful season at Championship level at Bristol City,” he said.

“Everyone is ready, it’s just being given the opportunity. A lot were ready beforehand. I’ve been playing football in the Championship or the Premier League for the last four or five years.

“A lot of people around me were ready for it but just weren’t given the opportunity. Now young English players are given the opportunity at Premier League level and Championship level.”

Sunderland’s Pickford is primed for a £30million move to Everton while Holding helped Arsenal win the FA Cup and Alfie Mawson impressed in Swansea’s survival bid.

Redmond made his senior England debut against Germany in March after joining Saints from Norwich for £10million last summer.

The 23-year-old has already made 255 appearances since his debut for Birmingham in 2010.

Redmond has reaped the rewards of playing regularly and feels the successes of the young England squads has put summer into sharper focus.

“We’re a bit more conscious of it. We’ve always had good young players through the development teams but you’re just seeing it now,” he said.

“Three, four or five years ago you were talking about England not having any good young players and now we’re seeing the Under-20s win, we won Toulon last year, the Under-19s have won it this year.

“The seniors are doing well, we’re doing well. You’re seeing it in bulk now.”

England also face Slovakia and hosts Poland in Group A next week.

It has been a relaxed but focused environment for the Young Lions and Redmond revealed watching dating show Love Island in their down time is the squad’s guilty pleasure.

He added: “Yeah, I reckon so! I managed to get it on the laptop so a few of the boys were round watching it. It’s another thing which keeps everyone together.

“We have games rooms and a lot of stuff to keep us occupied. A lot of the boys appreciate the downtime and chilling out.

“When you’ve got time to take your mind off football, you take it.”

GOSSIP: Giggs fancies Saints role

Show/hide article…

MANCHESTER United legend Ryan Giggs wants to ‘kickstart his managerial career’ at Saints, according to a national newspaper.

The Daily Mail state that Giggs fancies replacing Claude Puel at St Mary’s to take his ‘first steps into full-time management’.

But, considering his lack of experience, it seems a very unlikely appointment.

The 43-year-old has been linked with many jobs without finding employment and there is no indication that Saints are looking at the Welshman.

Giggs took temporary charge of United in 2014 after David Moyes was sacked, winning two and drawing one of his four Premier League games at the helm.

Saints have Frank de Boer and Mauricio Pellegrino on their shortlist for the role, but Giggs is not likely to appear on the club’s radar.
