Stoke vs Liverpool, Premier League LIVE: Plus all the other action

Show/hide article…

The Premier League is reaching the business end of the season with plenty at stake across five 3pm kick-offs on Saturday.

Manchester City and Hull need the points for different reasons at the Etihad Stadium, as the visitors look to dent Pep Guardiola’s top four aspirations and enhance their survival chances in the process.

Third-placed Liverpool slipped up at home to Bournemouth in midweek and face Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium hoping to inflict a fourth straight defeat on Mark Hughes’ side, while West Brom host Southampton.

There are two other encounters concerning sides involved in the relegation battle, as West Ham bid to arrest their slump against Swansea at the London Stadium, while Burnley search for a first away win this season at Middlesbrough.

Sportsmail’s BEN NAGLE takes you through all the action on another busy afternoon in the English top flight.

U18 Report: West Brom 2-2 Saints

Show/hide article…

Despite taking an early lead through Harlem Hale, Saints were pegged back by a first-half Nick Clayton-Phillips brace before Michael Obafemi then netted on 75 minutes to earn a share of the points.

It was a quick start for Craig Fleming’s men at West Bromwich Albion’s training ground, and they soon had the ball in the net. Hale worked space on the flank to fire across the box and in off Bradley House’s far post to take the lead.

Ben Rowthorn almost doubled the advantage on 20 minutes. The midfielder surged forward into acres of space and unleashed a fine drive from distance, but it flashed wide of the post.

The hosts soon found their way back into the game, though. Saints failed to clear a corner, which sparked a melee in the area and Clayton-Phillips pounced to tuck in from close range of the half-hour mark.

Just five minutes later Clayton-Phillips had another. Once again he was first to react inside the penalty area and headed in past Alex Cull to put the Baggies ahead at the break.

Saints came out fighting after the interval and almost drew level immediately. Christoph Klarer met Will Smallbone’s in-swinging free kick inside the box, but was unable to keep his volley down.

Clayton-Phillips then responded and had two chances to complete his hat-trick. His first strike was blocked by a mass of Saints bodies before Cull then denied him with a fine one-on-one stop.

Fleming moved to make his first change of the afternoon just after the hour mark, as Jonathan Afolabi replaced Harrison Davis.

It took until 75 minutes for Saints to find a leveller. Substitute Afolabi’s cross wasn’t cleared properly and Obafemi rifled the loose ball into the roof of the net from six yards out.

Obafemi then almost sealed all three points just minutes later. Having beaten the offside trap he watched on as his left-footed volley bounced clear off the post to ensure a share of the spoils.

Fleming: We really dug in

Show/hide article…

Having taken the lead within the opening five minutes, Saints were soon pegged back by two goals in quick succession from Nick Clayton-Phillips.

And although they adapted to the pitch conditions well, Fleming felt both first-half goals could well have been avoided.

“It was a good start,” he explained.

“It was a very dry, hard and bumpy pitch, but we coped well with the demands of the game and started very well.

“We deserved to get the opening goal but then conceded from two corners which we didn’t defend well enough for, if I am honest.”

Despite going behind, Fleming’s men continued to create opportunities and equalised on 75 minutes through Michael Obafemi.

Obafemi then had a chance in the closing stages to seal all three points, but his volley bounced clear off the West Brom post.

“To be fair to the players they really dug in,” continued Fleming.

“We weren’t at our best today by a long shot but they dug in, stayed in the game and got the equaliser late in the game.

“It was a good start with a not-so-good middle and then a good finish. That was how the game ebbed and flowed, really.”

Premier League round-up: Hammers ease pressure on Slaven Bilic, Liverpool boost top four hopes and Middlesbrough draw blank

Show/hide article…

West Ham secured their first league win in eight games to ease the pressure on under fire boss Slaven Bilic.

Heading into the clash, reports suggested the Croatian would lose his job should the Hammers suffer defeat against the Swans.

But the Hammers board were not forced into action as Cheikhou Kouyate’s late first half strike delivered three points for the hosts.

The result leaves West Ham eight points clear of the relegation zone, while the Swans remain two points from safety.

Liverpool secured a crucial win in their quest to qualify for the Champions League after coming from behind to beat struggling Stoke.

The Potters went ahead through Jonathan Walters in the first half to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side in serious danger of slipping out of the top four.

But the Brazilian duo of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino ensured the Reds claimed all three points, as they stepped off the bench to make a telling impact.

The result leaves Liverpool nine points clear of Arsenal and Manchester United – but have played three games more.

Middlesbrough slipped further towards the Championship after failing to beat Burnley at the Riverside Stadium.

The hosts had plenty of chances to force an opening, but it was not to be as the Clarets somehow escaped with a point.

The result leaves Boro six points adrift in 19th place.

Manchester City boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League after easing past Hull at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side were made to wait until the half-hour before finding a breakthrough goal as Ahmed El Mohamady put the ball into his net.

And further goals followed as second half strikes from Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph gave the hosts a comfortable lead before Andrea Ranocchia’s late consolation goal for the Tigers.

Southampton edged closer to securing an eighth place finish for a third consecutive season after beating West Brom at The Hawthorns.

The Saints claimed all three points thanks to a fine strike by Jordy Clasie as Claude Puel’s side moved within four points of the Baggies.
