Clasie: Fraser was unbelievable

Show/hide article…

Clasie netted the winning strike at the Hawthorns, but the 25-year-old was quick to deflect the attention onto Forster who made a number of fantastic stops to ensure Saints picked up all three points.

“It’s unbelievable,” started Clasie.

“The last two or three saves he made were incredible. They were so important for us, not only as defenders but the whole team.

“We have a ‘keeper that can take points for us. I scored today but I think you can give him the credit as well because he won us two points.”

Clasie’s goal marked his return to Claude Puel’s starting eleven, following Oriol Romeu’s suspension and Steven Davis’ injury.

And the former Feyenoord man was pleased to get back out on the pitch and amongst the action.

“It was a lovely feeling,” he continued.

“Every player wants to play in their career. You can have some difficult moments on the bench or not in the squad, and I’ve had those moments.

“Sometimes you need that little bit of luck and today was my chance, but the most important thing was to get all three points.”

WATCH: West Brom 0-1 Southampton

Show/hide article…

Fraser Forster’s late heroics sealed a 1-0 win for Southampton after Jordy Clasie bagged his first Premier League goal at West Brom.

The pair combined to earn a deserved win for the Saints during a pedestrian game which only briefly came to life.

Saints closed the gap to Albion to four points - and they have two games in hand as the teams battle for eighth spot.

But Claude Puel’s side only secured back-to-back wins thanks to goalkeeper Forster, who denied Craig Dawson and Jonny Evans in stoppage time.

In contrast, Albion were condemned to a second straight defeat and they have won just once in their last six games as their attempt to break the 50 points barrier for the first time in the Premier League continues to stutter.

Foundation to host inaugural golf day

Show/hide article…

Saints Foundation will host its inaugural charity golf day on Wednesday 10th May 2017 at Hamptworth Golf Club.

Golfers will have the opportunity to play 18 holes with an ex Southampton FC player, while supporting the club’s official charity, Saints Foundation.

A host of former Saints are set to take part in the event, including Gordon Watson, Matt Le Tissier, Mike Earles, Franny Benali, David Puckett, Hughie Fisher, Mark Blake, Manny Andruszewski, Jim Steele, David Peach and Reuben Agboola.

Situated on the edge of the New Forest, Hamptworth enjoys some of England’s most magnificent and ancient countryside and is also home to one of only a handful of Par 6 holes in the world.

The day will commence at 11am, when you will be welcomed at Hamptworth with bacon rolls and refreshments, before taking part in an afternoon of golf. Golfers will enjoy halfway drinks and a three-course meal in the evening, followed by a raffle, auction and Q&A with the Saints legends.

There are two entry options available:

• £300 for a team of three with an Ex-Saint

• £250 for a team of four without an Ex-Saint

Also, why not use the opportunity to promote your business at our 2017 Golf Day? You could sponsor a hole, the longest drive or even a hole-in-one.

To sign up, or for more information, please call 02380 711997 or email Amy Bennett at abennett@saintsfc.co.uk

Please note, the ex-players will be drawn at random and assigned to teams on the day.
