Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury ahead of the visit of West Ham.
But Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse are back in training after spells out and could be added to the squad.
New striker Manolo Gabbiadini will also be involved, although manager Claude Puel has yet to decide whether to hand him a place in the starting line-up.
Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate is back in the West Ham squad for the trip to Southampton, having returned from the African Nations Cup.
Right-back Sam Byram felt his hamstring after the midweek 4-0 defeat by Manchester City and will be assessed.
Robert Snodgrass could make his full debut after coming on as a substitute against City while fellow January signing Jose Fonte makes a swift return to his old club.
Saints host the Hammers a few days on from losing 2-1 away to Swansea City, which marked a fifth defeat in their last six Premier League games.
Puel’s men thrashed Premier League champions Leicester, 3-0, in their last top-flight outing at home, while they followed that up with their EFL Cup semi-final triumph at Anfield.
Since then, though, they have lost 5-0 to Arsenal in the FA Cup, while being beaten at Liberty Stadium.
Puel now wants to see a response, and a return to the sort of form they showed against the Foxes and the Reds.
“It’s important to come back with a good start, a good first half,” he said. "It was not this against Swansea. We produced a good second half there, but it was not sufficient.
"I think, of course, it’s important to come back with good spirit, quality and to give pleasure to our fans with a good result.
“We have to produce a good reaction and a good answer in the Premier League. The contrast between the game against Liverpool, for example, and the game against Swansea, it’s important to correct this.”

Slaven Bilic: "[Southampton] had a great run in the League Cup, I remembered they played some really good football and played some good away games - and then I saw they are below us.
"I like the way they play, obviously they have their ups and downs and played a lot of games because of Europe and the EFL Cup.
"They have some new players and some injuries, and it will be a tough game for us and for them.
“It is an important game because we are only one point above them and we want to make that gap bigger.”
